Description
Dedicated to homemade refracting telescopes.
Any and all kinds of refracting telescopes that you built..either by purchasing an objective from D&G, Yaegers, Antaries, Brandt, or any of the hundreds of professional, semi-professional, or Amateur objective makers. Consisting of parts you make. borrow or scrounge. Even scopes that you simply assemble from ordered manufacturers listed parts or accessories. Folded refractors...short/long focus...doublets/triplets. Any kind of refractor or design you can build is discussed. Also repair...and restoration of homemade refractors.
If you built it from scratch or would like to learn how to...this is the place to get aquainted, meet those who have built their own refracting telescopes, and just have fun. Those of you who are familiar with RTMC or Stellefane are familiar with what it can take to produce a quality refractor from unrelated things, or altered *things*.
Pictured is Member Rob Wiederrich's homemade 10"f/15 and 8ft steal pier and mount build. Check out his photo files for more images.
Try to keep personal issues to an unnoticeable level, and lets have fun....

Re: First home-brew refractor
... As I said, it is not quite a Littrow doublet; the crown is isoconvex, but the last flint surface is not flat. In both doublets, though, it is only about
