My son is new to Rails, as was the person who asked about resources. He's doing well, but I have to help him frequently with problems associated with out of date docs.

Most of my Rails work is on rescue projects that are on (various) older versions of Rails, so its really hard to keep track of what features I can and cannot use for a particular project.

Good tip, and way to do ad placement in a response :-). Here's the link for them that needs it - http://ruby5.envylabs.com/.

Is the what's new site you mentioned http://ryandaigle.com/? That's the one I use most often.

On Mysql - me too. Had to reinstall the 64 bit version, and muck around quite a bit with symlinks and drivers to get things working again. PIA. Wonder if Postgres is any easier...

While we're talking about jQuery (which I frikin love), you guys may
want to look at a handy color picker tool I used a lot when designing
the color scheme to my sites. It's called farbtastic (see
http://acko.net/dev/farbtastic)

I add a line like this:

|<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.colorpicker').farbtastic('#color');
});
</script>
|
in a shared header so that all pages have access to this. Then whenever
I want to change the background color of a <div> (or any html element) I
just add .colorpicker as a class to the div. From there, you can adjust
teh color picker that appears on your page. Really handy.

I'm a big fan of the following tools:

* ElasticFox - firefox plugin that can fully manage your EC2 instances (start, stop, create 10 instances just like this one, etc). This is the plugin to have for EC2.
* S3Fox -- firefox plugin that can help manage your buckets and upload/download files in a pinch... doesn't do well on buckets with large file counts (maybe in the thousands it starts to slow down).

Leo's right on about ec2onrails -- if you're building a rails app on ec2, it does a lot for you, and get you up in a hurry.

Thanks for the reminder!

Yes - Bassel is going to do a talk on Flex, and an informal talk on Heroku would be great (IMO).

Did we ever decide on what is being presented at the meeting tonight?  I know Flex as discussed and I mentioned Heroku.  I do not have a formal presentation ready for Heroku, but I would still be more than happy to wing it if anybody is interested and we have time.

I could also discuss Moonshine (the plugin) if anybody is interested in that.  I published a blog post about that last night.

If these are recorded and posted somewhere, my vote is for Heroku. I haven't gotten around to deploying anything, but I'm curious as to how to deploy Rack-based apps, not just Rails. Alas, I am presenting elsewhere that night, so I won't be able to make it.

I like how you add (the plugin) as to differentiate it from your other business... ;-)
