Description

Higlighting the strengths and weaknesses of some of the software projects that will replace the World Wide Web.

Companion website at hyperworlds.org

Xanadu is an advanced hypertext system designed by Ted Nelson, the inventor of hypertext. It has transparent payment of copyrights, EVERYTHING is editable, no broken links, all versions accessible, multiple dimensions, much more.

Mirror Worlds has data mining, "artificial experience", "topview", and much more outlined in the book. Both have simple structure, in great contrast to the current Internet. Either or something containing the strengths of both may become the Internet of the future.

Specifications and some code of any implementations of Xanadu, zigzag, and Floating World: hypertext designed by Ted Nelson (inventor of the word "hypertext"). Xanadu is a hypertext system which includes unbreakable bi-directional links, transparent payment of royalties, and freedom in quotation without losing the original source. It could fix many of the defects of the current World Wide Web. ZigZag is a multi-dimensional hypertext system with infinite dimension capabilities, programmable views, and an "interface" difficult to describe. You just have to try it. Floating World will be the merging of these two powerful systems. We will discuss the overall concepts and how to implement these. You are welcome to contribute anything from high level abstract descriptions of the concepts and goals to the low level code, and anything in between.
