Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a basic infrastructure necessary for the economic and social development of a country but also for its scientific and technological progress.
The growth of the ICT poses the challenge to avoid Developing Countries to be cut out from the main stream of information flow. The academic community is a fundamental starting point for these efforts to permeate to the rest of society.
To contribute to the expansion of ICT in Developing Countries, the Abdus Salam ICTP (http://www.ictp.trieste.it):
- Carries out Intensive Training Activities for scientists from developing countries.
- Established a Programme of Training and System Development on wireless technology, computer networking and Open Source Software.
- Provides a community meeting point and free information source throught its web portal http://wireless.ictp.trieste.it.
