Hi;
As you already noted, the first 1-something version of IPS is now out
in a beta version, the first beta I might add. However, my hopes are
that there won't be to many betas before it is upgraded to the next
level.
The track towards a release is as follows ...
Step 1 - Release public Beta.
Step 2 - Give it time to prove stability and proper operation, if
serious bugs arise they will be fixed and we return to step 1. Now new
features will be added.
Step 3 - Release public Code Candidate, which is a version which is
supposed to be the release quality code. Documentation, read me files
and such may still be worked on. If extremely serious bugs arises they
will be fixed and we are back to step 1. Let us hope that doesn't
happen.
Step 4 - Release public Candidate, which should be the exact same
distribution as the final release. This step may be skipped if code and
distribution is good enough through the steps above.
Step 5 - Release public Release. After this point no more releases will
be done using the same version number.
No dates has been set ¡ this is a spare time project ¡ but I hope we
would reach step 5 as soon as possible. However, to get there fast I
need reports from users. Good or bad reports, I need them all. What I
would like is to hear from users about how they use IPS (platform,
services, traffic) and if there has been any problems with the latest
release. Only when enough time has passed and/or enough feedback is
received can I move IPS on step ahead.
