Hmmmm...RUP is a methodology built around phase iterative development. It's
primary purpose is to spread risk across phases, instead of lumping into one
or two phases per usual development. RAD is a process that normally uses a
tightly coupled spiral model that iterates until you reach a product. RAD is
normally used when you are time short or solving a problem for the first
time with higher risk than normal. You can use RAD within RUP.
You can't compare them. They are not similar type processes/methodologies. I
would recommend RUP for larger development primarily and RAD for smaller.
But that's not a hard and fast rule.
RUP consists on four phases: Inception, Elaboration, Construction and
Transition which may relate to Requirements, Functional, Design/Code and
Test/Deploy in a RAD project.
RUP is more of formal methodology with defined artifacts which makes use of
the Rational Suite of Tools.. RAD is a process, not really a formal
methodology (but that can be argued).
The ambiguity of the above is deliberate. They are both ways to turn
software and RAD process may be and usually is used within a Phase of RUP.
Would be happy to answer specific questions.

Subject: [ITmethods] Comparison between RUP and RAD methodologies.
Hi
I need some information on both RUP(Rational Unified Process) and RAD
(Rapid Application Development) methodologies and a brief comparison
between them in developing Larg Scale Management Information Systems.
Thanks alot,
Elham.
