Description

A group for lovers of Icelandic chickens, a breed entirely descended from the chickens brought to Iceland by Viking settlers during the ninth and tenth centuries. Fine foragers, layers of white to tinted eggs, broodies and mothers and not surprisingly, highly cold-hardy, these chickens, saved from extinction in the 1970's, have been exported to a number of countries, including the USA. Given ample shade and water, they seem to do well in hot weather as well. They occur in a variety of colors, comb types, and some have feathered legs, so you never know what you might get from any one breeding. They fly very well but are of a calm disposition. PLEASE NOTE: if you applied to join this list and didn't get approved, please be aware I wasn't getting the notices for the applications. Please apply again and I'll get to them promptly.

Re: Looking for hatching eggs
Usually I just mark eggs for the roo that fertilized them. If I want to know who the mother is, I give each hen a cage and move the roo around so each hen
