A beautiful photograph Saurabh. It would be great if you could post alongside a photograph of the other species for comparison. You photographers are certainly creating a Brave New World. More strength to your arms and steadiness to your elbows.

Dear all:

A Rufous-tailed Wheatear from the famous bird rock, Banni, Kutch January 2009. A winter migrant to NW India.

This bird gave me quite a run in the midday sun with the 800mm lens & tripod!

Cheers,

We, (Dr. Parvish Pandya, Shashank Dalvi, Gaurav Shirodkar, Sahir Parkar & Myself) enjoyed watching a Jackal in the broad daylight among lots of waders at Uran, near Mumbai. Everyone first thought it to be a dog. We could know it only when it went through the Spotting Scope's view. Here's a record shot. Extremely sorry for the poor image. It was too far for my equipment. This is almost full crop. You can see Painted Storks, Spoonbills, Grey Herons and some ducks in the background.

Hi All,

In Dutch there is a saying that does not translate too well but goes something like "All the luck is with fools." A variation on this along the lines of "All the luck is with those who can not take photos" would be applicable.

Today I spotted two Amurs from far. I carefully approached them but it was not necessary to be careful, they were completely uninterested in me. I could sit right below them, surrounded by ten dogs jumping and running around, and they would just continue preening for a good half hour. Just when I wanted to leave and third one joined who barely give me one look and also went on sorting out its feathers. All in all I left after a good hour and they will still there. Despite all the time they gave me, I did not manage one single sharp photo. Nonetheless I think some of the photos, despite the poor quality, are a bit interesting.
Interestingly there were less crows around today so perhaps they were the ones that kept the Amurs away so far.

Also saw the first European roller today.

With kind regards,

Here is an example of how more birdwatchers in the field are changing our knowledge of the status of birds.

This falcon was considered rather unusual to come across in my days when I went actively after birds.
