Hello,
my organization frequently does petition campaigns targeting federal house
representatives. We visit churches and do street petitioning and gather
thousands of petitions per campaign. Once we enter the information in an
excel sheet, what's the best way to assign each petition to their respective
representative?
There's a lot of websites out there that allow you to enter one address at a
time and return their congressional member. Doing this one entry at a time
is tedious, and leads to human error.
Are there sites where I could upload a CSV/XLS with all the addresses and
get the Congressional Districts (CD)'s back? Or programs that handle this?
So far our closest approach was identifying which ZIP codes were fully
contained within a CD, then batch-assign those zip codes, and then use a
Google Earth CD layer to eye-track each member on the map. Wholly inadequate
and doesn't scale, of course. On a side note, most of the petitions we
collect only have addresses and phone numbers - most of our community
members don't have email.
Any suggestions or even little tricks like our Google Earth solution that
lead to higher efficiency are highly welcome!
Thanks,
