Dear all,
I am pleased to announce that over the last 2-3 months a fantastic group of
non-profit IT/design professionals have come together to start an effort to
green the non-profit IT sector. Named the Green IT Consortium, we are a group
of IT practitioners, consulting companies, vendors, design/branding firms,
non-profit IT professionals (CIOs, etc) and others committed to working together
to green non-profit technology IT/design services.
While we are still very much in the formative stage, we encourage you to become
involved by joining our LinkedIn Group <http://bit.ly/B6nGH>. The LinkedIn
Group is serving as a forum to share resources and news about the initiative
while our website in being built (kind thanks to ALR Designs and RAD Campaigns).
Please take a minute to read a bit more about the effort below and join if you
are inclined. Meanwhile, stay tuned for event announcements, happy hours/mixers
(naturally), and more.
*About: *The Green IT Consortium is a group of IT practitioners, consulting
companies, vendors, design firms, non-profit IT professionals and others
committed to greening the non-profit technology sector. Any company serving
non-profit sector knows all too well the advantages of having multiple
bottom-lines. It starts with believing in the mission of those organizations
that we support. It also includes being a responsible corporate citizen. We also
know that these two things are not incongruous with maintaining a financially
sustainable enterprise. It's now time that our sector look closely at the
industry in which we work and do what we can to recommend sustainable,
responsible IT solutions and design services to those organizations we support
our daily efforts. Join this important effort<http://bit.ly/B6nGH> .
*Vision: *The vision is to see a significant shift in the way that the
non-profit IT/design community provides services to non-profit organizations
through the greening of IT/design/branding services We hope to achieve the
following:
- Growing awareness of green IT and sustainable design issues and best practices
- Moving past early adopters to educate/provide resources to companies to green
their services
- Growing, vibrant membership base that sets competition aside to share
resources and best practices to better the overall sector
- Promoting companies already committed to corporate social responsibility
- Work with non-profits to include in their vendor/firm evaluation criteria
if/how companies green their services
