Management Approaches to Non-Profit Technology   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #8599 of 11151 |
Hello,

I was wondering how those in the Non-Profit sector view for-profit management
approaches. I am working on getting my Masters in Public Administration and I
really still see that many of my classmates think it is acceptable for the
non-profit and public administration sectors to run inefficiently. The concept
of developing process and systems of doing things seams very very foreign. As
an accidental techie, I do not understand this. I really value many business
sectors models because they promote efficiency. They go bankrupt if they run
poorly, but the non-profit sector is so caught up in their "I am a noble cause"
help me mindset, that they don't think they need to focus on efficiency. As a
future donor to non-profits (currently I just volunteer) I refuse to give money
to any non-profit that I view as not spending and/or using their resources
efficiently. And this includes not using technology.

So, my question for everyone on this forum is how would you work to change this
mindset? What recourses currently exist that show cost benefit analysis?

Victoria
