This site is to bring together inventors, patent/IP-law experts, marketing companies, manufacturers, venture capital, translators, CAD drafting drawing experts, etc. so they may exchange, help each other out, and form fruitful working business relationships.
It is for educated questions from real inventors, who have real projects, are facing the challenges of international patent and intellectual property protection, the strategies thereof, finding manufacturers or sponsors to bring their inventions to market, etc.
Newcomers FAQ section:
Question: "I have an idea, and I want to know how to get a patent on my idea and if anyone can help me with that"
Answer: Read Patent it Yourself, by David Pressman. It should give you an excellent foundation to get started, and believe me, even after reading, you will still have questions... but more educated and advanced ones. (such as international protection and countries where you may not have any)
Caution/Danger: If you come across someone offering help, asking you to send them your non-disclosure agreement before they see your invention for financing, over the internet, DON'T! You can't verify at a distance the authenticity of the person and signature (I know of at least one inventions group in yahoo that is handled by such an individual).
Deal with PTO recognized patent agents and attorneys, and have any non-disclosure agreement, licensing agreement, and otherwise, reviewed by competent legal help. Your PTO office lists recognized/licensed patent agents, and can warn you of frauds and scams. For example, BE WARY OF INVENTION PROMOTION COMPANIES and PATENT SUBMISSION SERVICES: read what the PTO has to say about them - some are scams, some get you a worthless design patent, some have a high customer dissatisfation rate because they didn't promote except spam a worthless list.
