looking for a creative GIS applications and product
developer to be a
key
member of the Internet content development team. This
developer will be
responsible for helping to shape strategy, develop
products and execute
deployments of structured data in both text and
geospatial formats.
This
position will provide a great platform for an
imaginative GIS
technology
expert who sees the editorial and advertising
opportunities in mash-ups
for
enhancing user engagement with geo-coded content, both
for web
distribution
and in mobile applications.

This role requires:

. Skill in acquiring, integrating, managing,
analyzing, mapping and
distributing geographic, temporal and spatial
information.

. Development experience with any of the freely
available mapping API's
(Google, Yahoo, Microsoft).

. The ability to develop, articulate and execute on an
enterprise-wide
geospatial applications strategy for a multi-platform
news and
information
company.

. Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

. Knowledge of current GIS hardware/software
technologies and their
uses.

. Knowledge of web programming including some or all
of the following:
ASP,
ASP.NET, JAVA, JavaScript, HTML and XML

. A strong desire to develop GIS applications that are
useful and
readily
accessible to the average consumer.

. Design savvy to translate location data into
visually appealing and
dynamic maps and other graphic representations.

The ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for
finding new ways of
bringing
the value of location to distributing database
information. Some
applications will help our users better understand
complex issues, some
will
inform their decision-making (about schools, homes,
travel, etc.), some
will
provide our users with a new way of looking at the
world, and some will
just
be.fun. Increasing user engagement with our sites
through GIS
applications
is a key goal of this new position.

Requirements:

. Minimum four-year degree in Computer Science, or a
related field, or
equivalent experience, with exposure to Geographic
Information Systems.

. At least three years of web programming including
some or all of the
following: ASP, ASP.NET, JAVA, JavaScript, HTML and
XML. Experience in
developing location-based applications for mobile
devices is a plus.

. Experience in developing mash-ups using freely
available mapping
API's,
such as Google Maps.

. Experience in leading cross-functional project teams.
