A Mother's Memories

A Mother's memories go back
To when she was with child
Of kintting things and choosing names
To while away the hours

From the time her little child was born
Her life it greatly changed
The many sleepless nights she had
But she never did complain

Yes, a Mother's wondrous memories
Of the many happy days
As she watched her little child grow
And her heart was filled with praise

There was a first for everything
A tooth, a step, a word
And the wonder of these little things
Brought a brightness to her world

T That grubby face that smiled at her
And ran with outstretched arms
The naughtiness forgotten with
That little one's sweet charms

The proudness of the sums, all right
And the flowers on Mother's Day
With big eyes glaring when she was said
It chased the blues away

Then one day, through the passing years
As she watched her little one at play
She realized, as a little child
They would not always stay

With memories to have and hold
Now that they're fully grown
They're still that little child you knew
No matter where they roam

And you'll always be that special one
They hold within their heart
And their thoughts they will be with you
Even though you are apart

Strangly, I wrote this poem several years before
getting
married and having the first of my children.
Tis as if, in being a woman, i instinctively knew
of a
Mother's experiences and feelings.
Now, in being the Mother of four teenage children
i miss
those magical years of watching my children grow
to become adults themselves. I miss the magic of
the
many firsts and yet sense the magic will come
again
when my daughters become Mother's themself and
my sons
become Fathers . I so look
forward to holding Grandchildren in my arms, to
once
again feel the wonder and joy of the many firsts
they will
experince.
I look forward to seeing the cycle of life begin
again, where
with the birth of my Grandchildren i will be
reborn.

May this be a wondrous day for all of you, may
joyous memories be rekindled and may you
always know the love of your children.
