Forwarding news: C.G.Jung Society of Sydney

On every front at present we are being asked to consider the effects of climate
change and what we
can do to alleviate the situation. This Saturday the Jung Society is hosting a
panel entitled Climate
Change meets Depth Psychology: Weaving Threads between Self and World. The aim
of this evening is
to stimulate thoughts and discussion about matters such as the psyche's response
to the growing
threat of climate change, the interplay between psyche and environment and
psyche's role in
supporting and/or hindering the necessary changes to meet the environmental
crisis. The speakers
will be Peter Dicker, Heather Formaini and myself, all clinicians with an active
interest in
environmental concerns. Jonathan Marshall will act as chair. We very much hope
you can come along
and join in with this vital conversation. Please click here for further
details.http://www.jungdownunder.com/Sydney/sydney.htm

Our guest speaker last month was Jonathan Marshall who presented an
entertaining, and provocative
account of the symbolic and myth making aspects associated with the historical
development of
electricity and nuclear power in his talk Through Alchemy to Technology. His
presentation was richly
illustrated by a wide range of fascinating images ending with a powerful series
of nuclear explosions
which he asked us to silently consider holding all the tension of the opposite
reactions inspired by
these awesome photos. A rich audience discussion followed in response. My thanks
to Jonathan for
such an original and exciting evening which certainly energised the highly
appreciative audience.

Monica Roman, our Treasurer who has worked miracles on the state of our
financial records, has
sadly had to resign for reasons of health. We owe Monica a tremendous vote of
thanks for the very
generous donation of her professional accounting and bookkeeping skills. Our
very best wishes to
Monica and our gratitude for her enthusiasm and passion for all her work on the
Committee over the
last 15 months. Marcel Abarca, our Assistant Treasurer, has kindly agreed to
take on the role of
Treasurer and is well-placed to continue on with Monica's excellent work.

By now all of you who are members should have received your latest copy of Jung
Downunder, once
again beautifully designed by Tim Hartridge. Please contact Lenore Kulakauskas
atcgjung@... if your copy for some reason has not arrived. I would
like to especially
draw your attention to the Marion Woodman Reading Group led by Kathleen
McPhillips which starts on
August 5. (Click here for further details).

I also draw your attention to the attachments to this email that advertise Soul
in the City events and a
new publication which may be of interest to you.

Our calendar for the rest of 2008 is full and varied. We look forward to meeting
you at some of our
many events in the months ahead.

Best wishes

Sally Gillespie, President
