We are very fortunate to have Melbourne Jungian Analyst Frith Luton
as our Guest Speaker this Saturday. In her talk "Circumambulating the
Centre", Frith will be exploring the symbolism of bee, honey and
hive, and the archetypal process of circumambulation of the centre,
seen both in the service of the queen bee and more universally in
mandala symbolism. Frith will particularly focus on the alchemical
union of the opposites contained within the symbolic life of the
hive. This fascinating talk will be grounded in Frith’s practical
experience as a beekeeper along with her deep appreciation of Jung’s
Mysterium Coniunctionis.Definitely not to be missed! (Click here for
further details)
Last month we welcomed Roger Brooke as our Guest Speaker. Roger
presented Jungian perspectives on psychoanalytic theory and practice
in his talk Oedipus, focusing on psychological development through
the life span. In an absorbing talk Roger gave us fresh eyes for the
archetypal nature of the triadic interplay of the Oedipal complex,
and for its network of identifications that play out in endless
combinations throughout life. In a lively fashion Roger considered
the roles of destiny, desire, separation, defeat and loss and the
ways they are mediated in early life through interaction with
parents, and then subsequently acted out in both regressive and
forward moving ways as adults. This great evening was followed up on
Sunday by his well-attended and received workshop The Family Romance,
which continued his exploration of a Jungian model of infant and
child development from both clinical and personal perspectives. Our
thanks to Roger for his warm presence and stimulating insights.
I am delighted to report that at the Annual General Meeting, which
preceded Roger’s talk, the entire Executive Committee of our Society
were re-elected joined by Louise Fanning and Maylin Tan. We are all
excited by our continuing work together promoting and enlivening the
life of the Jung Society in Sydney.
