Saturday, 16 May:

This Saturday our Guest Speaker is Pam Stavropoulos, the author of
Living Under Liberalism: The Politics of Depression in Western
Democracy. In her talk The Politics of Depression: Liberal Values and
Emotional Health Pam will be asking us to reflect upon the ‘shadow
side’ of our contemporary liberal value system with its ideals of
individualism, freedom and equality.

Considering the high incidence of depression in Western democratic
countries she explores key questions about definitions of mental
health, and the way that such definitions are shaped by the
individualist bias of our societies, at the cost of recognising
relational needs. What happens when we don’t feel the way we think we
‘should ‘feel’? Such provocative questions make for an absorbing and
mind opening evening. Do join us if you can to explore a topic of
major importance to us all.

News:
Last month we were very fortunate to have Melbourne Jungian Analyst
Frith Luton as our Guest Speaker . In her talk Circumambulating the
Centre, Frith considered the symbolism and mythology of bee, honey
and hive, and the archetypal process of circumambulation of the
centre seen in the service of the queen bee. Frith further reflected
on the alchemical processes involved in the making of the honey, ‘the
food of the Gods’, noting its parallels to the stages of the
individuation process. This fascinating talk was grounded in Frith’s
practical experience as a beekeeper along with her deep appreciation
of Jung’s Mysterium Coniunctionis. Many thanks to Frith for a sweet
and piercing presentation!

Workshops:
Starting up in June is a series of monthly BodySoul Dance of Three
workshops presented by Joan Harcourt as well as two half day
workshops on Becoming Crones. Joan’s BodySoul workshops are based
upon the work of Marion Woodman; her events for us last year were
very well-received. Please see Joan’s attached flyers for full details.

I look forward to meeting with you soon
(on behalf of)
Sally Gillespie, President
