Hi Sue,
Please don't throw out your wax! It was still quite good. I take wax
cappings from 40-50 colonies and allow the honey to drains for about five
days. Then when most of the honey has drained the wax is scooped into five
gallon pails then are filled with water. Allowed to soak over night. Then I
take out my wax crock pot (used only for wax) and fill it up using a fine
screen strainer to transfer. Turn on the crock pot melt and melt down the
wax. Keep adding wax until the crock pot is full of melted wax. Using a
ladle scoop the wax into half gallon milk cartons (clean) going through
cheesecloth. This will produce a 3-4 lbs block of clean wax. Keep repeating
the process. Drain water and slubgum that accumulates from time to time. I
then mill the wax into beeswax foundations or candles. Whatever you like.
