Re: [KEEPINGBEES] getting started

you might want to check out a bee association in your area also...I know we
always have a few swarms of bees to give away in the spring...and with the mite
situation I've found a lot of beekeepers around that are giving it up...and you
can pick up hives that way too...

If you are handy in the woodshop you can build your own hives...but with the
quality of wood available now, which unless you pay premium cost, is not very
good...the hives we've purchased from suppliers are very good quality...and well
worth the money...

We've been keeping bees for several years now...one thing I learned...the bees
didn't read the manual... *grin* ...they teach me something new every year...

I'm a mushroom farmer and a market gardener. I'm looking to
establish my first hive or maybe two starting this upcoming spring. I
see starter kits from aperiary companies but I would really like to
build my own hives. My question is-should I buy one of these starter
kits or can I collect these things on my own for less money? Also-
where can I find plans for hives on line? Or should I order and study
the pieces they send me? Eric

Morning Eric, Well, unless you have A LOT of wildflowers and blooming trees, you probably won't have any record breaking honey crops. It will take a lot more...

Thanks Mark, that was helpful. There may be a possibility I could find a place to put a hive in the valley. It's the 'Rogue' valley. Thousands of acres of...
