I've tried to reinstall 11.1, but I can't. I've tried, but I don't have enought
disk space. Or, that's the message. How, and what do I delete? I guess it's
plain that I don't know anything.

Hello,
I managed the wifi-connection for my Lenovo B560 with much trouble and efforts.
My prob: I was successfully but dont know how at all.
I changed many commands, entries in folders, added and deleted firmware; after
all it worked after a reboot.
My idea: backing up the settings in order to be ready for a new install.
Is that possible?
Regards
Charlyms

I think you need to give the installer a partition to use.

But if you didn't setup your previous system with multiple partitions then it
might be difficult to save anything. You may have to use something like this to
move your old files out of the way:

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

What I do is just put my home directory on its own partition. That way if I ever
want to reinstall I do not have to erase my personal files.

Hi all,
I've some problems with the configuration of the Horde Webmail. My
server is hosted by OVH with the Gentoo OS (Release 2).
I want to install a quota monitoring service on my system. I want my
users to receive a mail when they've reached the limit on their mail
user account.
I've any idea of how to do it and if the Horde Webmail system is able to
manage this.
Waiting for an answer please.

From what I read you have to install while on a wired connection, then update
while on wired, then after a restart you should be able to set-up your wi-fi.

I think that the tool that allows Mint to customize is called GNOME Tweak
Tool which has been ported to Mint 13 Cinnamon which is really just a
customized GNOME Shell. I am not sure what Cinnamon calls it, but it is not
a Mint tool per se. You can do the same thing in GNOME Shell.

Greetings, I just recently purchased a Panasonic Toughbook with the following
specs:

Type Notebook
Screen Size 13.3"
Brand Panasonic
Processor Type CENTRINO
Product Line Toughbook
Processor Speed 1.3GHZ
Model CF29
Memory 1.25GB
Operating System Windows XP
Hard Drive Capacity 40GB

I was pretty excited when it arrived and wanted to get Ubuntu on it quick. I
already have another laptop (Toshiba) that I have Ubuntu on and I love it. No
problem with downloading Ubuntu on that laptop either. I can not say the same
for my new/old laptop. I went to the Ubuntu site and downloaded the for windows
version so I could dual boot. It downloaded OK and even had me pick my name and
password. So, I then reboot and choose Ubuntu from the screen and it goes to
the Ubuntu orange screen but no desktop is there. It is the desktop without all
the icons that usually pop up along the left side and also nothing in the upper
right corner for time, shut down, etc. So, I turn it off and back on. When I
hit my off switch the Ubuntu logo does come up in the middle with the dots
underneath as the computer powers down. I reboot, it asks me to sign in again
and goes to a blank Ubuntu screen again.
Where is the desktop? Please help, I am not sure why it did not set up the
desktop completely.
Thank you

The way they do it on Slackware is probably what you're referring to. Or are you
getting files that end in .deb or .rpg, or various compressed formats?

There is a package in the Ubuntu repositories called build-essential and in
Fedora it may be called "Development Tools" that you will need first. If
you are not using Ubuntu or one of its derivatives then there may be a
similar combination of packages. If not then you will need to install each
one individually.

Here is a rough guide: http://luv.asn.au/overheads/compile.html

Some of it may be a bit dated so do not pay attention to version numbers.

This is a good guide on the process for Debian based:
http://www.aboutdebian.com/compile.htm

This is an rpm and Debina based guide:

Good luck. Let us know how you do.

It sounds like a graphics problem. Maybe a package upgrade will fix it. You
will need to boot into recovery mode to do that. Go to the Advanced section
of GRUB just under where it says Ubuntu. See the pictures here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/203374/ubuntu-12-10-low-graphics-mode

You might want to try the failsafe graphics mode first. Once you are in
then you can fix the packages using apt-get or the
package manager. Failing that then you can drop into a root shell prompt
and try:

sudo apt-get update

then

sudo apt-get upgrade. Try re-booting and see if it works. If not you can
try again with some of the suggestions in the link above. It would help to
know what your graphics card is. All is not lost. You can probably get it
working if you have the patience. If not just re-install. At that point you
can choose another distribution or stick with Ubuntu. Things can go awry
with any installation.

End user level machines. Go with XPS if you intend to use this for
work. Alienware may be a good alternative too (I do my daily work on
an Alienware M15x) Inspirons... meh... they're decent, IMO, but as far
as business use goes, are more geared toward people who do more
presentations and spreadsheets than people who do coding, compiling,
and more intense work. You MAY be happy with the higher end
Inspirons, but honestly, to me they feel cheaply made.

> 2. Lenovo Thinkpad
Crap. I haven't seen a decent Thinkpad since the X220. I currently
own an X201. All the newer are generally Crap, and stay away
especially from the Edge series... pure garbage. Thinkpads are NOT
the same as they were in the IBM days. IBM and the EARLY Lenovo
thinkpads were bullet proof, which is why I STILL use my old X201.
It's rock solid. But I've tested Linux (Ubuntu) on multiple new
thinkpads, and I wouldn't waste my own money on any of them these
days.

> 3. HP
The only good HPs I've liked are the extreme high end. Again, they
feel cheaply made. I only own one HP laptop, and really don't like
it. I let my wife have it for her web-surfing machine because it felt
like I would break it from normal use and the case was creaky and felt
flimsy.

> 4 Toshiba
Toshiba actually makes decent machines. I can't tell you much about
Linux support on them, but I do know that some older models at least
work very well. The newer ones, maybe, maybe not. Of the four
you listed, I'd look at either a dell XPS laptop (beefy like
Alienware, but not as expensive) or a Toshiba before the others.

That being said, I'm currently looking at a Dell XPS13 Ultrabook that
seems pretty suitable for a development system. I'm also looking at a
Macbook, however. I don't need windows, I just need to run Linux (and
I would like to get an OSX machine of my very own.
