Description

LABoratory Research And Technical Support
We share sustainable research practices at the University of California, Santa Barbara among biology, engineering, chemistry, physics, geology, oceanography, etc. departments. We strive for excellence in science with minimum impact on resources, energy, habitat and quality of life while following practices and conditions described by "the Natural Step". For maximum efficiency we aim for 2-3 staff, student or faculty members in each department, though more are welcome to join.
We also share expertise in who practices needed techniques, where instrumentation can be found, and where repairs and parts can be obtained. We occasionally swap surplus apparatus--vacuum pumps, old computers, chromatographs--thus saving money and storage space. We welcome ideas and occasional inquiries from other campuses.
