June Meeting - For those of you who missed out on the June meeting, nature photographer Bob Colvin provided us with an enjoyable presentation of slides and prints of his nature and wildlife photography. Bob shared his knowledge and experience with club members, providing a great number of ideas and recommendations for producing better images. Bob's candid descriptions of his experiences and situations in which he found himself while pursuing his subject matter, helped to bring his images to life. Patience, persistence and passion were evident throughout his presentation and his images. We hope to invite Mr. Colvin back in the not to distant future and you won't want to miss out.
The "Scott Kelby 2nd Annual Worldwide Photo Walk" will take place this year on Saturday, July 18th. Ms. Pat Roe of Lake Ozark will be leading photographers along a two hour photo walk adventure along the Lake Ozark - Bagnell Dam Strip portion of the world wide walk. The walk will begin at 6:15pm at the patio at Casino Pier with a trek across the dam and then back up the strip. If you would like to participate or find out more information, please visit the official World Wide Photo Walk website.
Pricing your images - Images are a powerful means of communication and because of this, our photos have value. It always feels good to see our images used to enhance a story in a magazine or newspaper, but it feels even better when we get paid an appropriate fee for the use of the images that we worked hard to produce. Determining a fair price though can be a challenge. If you are not already familiar with the fair market value of your images for magazine, newspaper and other media, using the on-line pricing guides that are available on the websites of major stock photography providers can be a great help. One such on-line tool is available on the Alamy website. Just fill in the information and an approximate recommendation is calculated.
Education Opportunity - Artist, photographer and educator, Robert Renfrow of Tuscon Arizona calls Lake of the Ozarks home during the summer months. Mr. Renfrow has offered to present a class or workshop that might be of interest to club members and non-members alike. Subjects ranging from an introduction to digital photography or PhotoShop Elements to portfolio development and/or travel photography are possible topics. If you would be interested in a reasonably priced class or workshop presented here at the lake, please send an email to Joe Nieters . Be sure to include your contact information along with the type of class or seminar that you are interested in. Mr. Renfrow will return to Arizona in August so please do not hesitate with your reply!
Club member photos - If you would like to see any of your photo challenge or scavenger hunt images on the Club's website home page, please either upload the image file to the website or send to me in an email. We will rotate the images every few weeks.
The club recently adopted a new membership application form. It is important that we have on file a completed application for all members in good standing (paid members). If you are currently a member in good standing and have not yet turned in a completed membership application form, please download and print a copy of the membership application and bring it to the next meeting with you. You will find the LAPC membership application form in the Files section of the website.
Print Sizes - To maintain consistency with the Photo Quest guidelines and to better accommodate our members who use a lab for image prints, the club will now accept challenge and general competition prints in sizes up to either 8-1/2" x 11" OR 8" x 12".
Speaking of Photo Quest, volunteers are still needed to help set up, move and take down the displays. Please contact Sandy Sinclair or Kerry Kelling to volunteer or for more information. Also, you can find a PDF file of the Photo Quest flier and application in the Files section of the club website. Spread the word!
Workshop Ideas - In addition to the classes that Mr. Renfrow has offered, the club would like to plan future classes, seminars and workshops that will be of interest to our club members and to the members of other photo clubs and even to non-members. So, what type of class, workshop or seminar would you like to see? Please forward your wishes to Program Committee chairperson Bill Sinclair.
July Club Meeting - Don't forget, the July general meeting will be a photo trek at the Osage Beach Premium Outlets mall, 4540 Highway 54, Osage Beach. We will meet at 7:00pm in front of Stockton's Restaurant. You should plan to present photos taken during the trek at the August meeting.
Happy Shooting!
