Election of Club Officers

The election of new officers was held during the January club meeting.  On behalf of the club membership, I would like to thank Don von Wolffradt for his leadership as club President during the past year.

The following members were elected to office for 2009;
  • Jane Delaney - Treasurer
  • Lucy Wheeler - Secretary
  • Jack Hostetter - Vice President
  • Joe Nieters - President
Membership Renewal - Dues Due!

It's that time of year again.  Club memberships expired at the end of December and it's time to renew them.  The cost of membership is
$20 for an individual or $30 for a family.  The program committee has a lot of great ideas and are quite enthusiastic about the year ahead.  We can expect some new and exciting activities for 2009 and we look forward to seeing each of you at our upcoming meetings.

February Program - White Balance

The educational program for our February meeting will cover white balance and will be presented by club member Bill Sinclair.  Understanding and controlling white balance is important to all photographers who want to produce the best possible image.

The February meeting is planned to be held in the 2nd floor conference room at the main branch of the Central Bank of Lake of the Ozarks on highway 54 in Osage Beach.

February Challenge - Black or White

Our photo challenge for the February meeting is "Black or White".  Please plan to present un-matted prints no larger than 8.5" x 11" for this challenge.  We will not be projecting challenge images.

Fall Competition (4 Seasons/1 Scene)

In place of the traditional fall scavenger hunt, we are going to try something new.  So, for the November meeting, we will be presenting 4 images, all of the same scene or subject.  Each image should represent that scene or subject in a different season.

We are planning a spring scavenger hunt and will be announcing the categories soon.  Please note that in the spirit of typical scavenger hunts, images should be created specifically for the scavenger hunt rather than using images that were made in the past.

Request for Program Ideas

The program committee would like to encourage the participation of all members and are asking that each club member submit two suggestions for future programs.  This is your chance to tell the program committee what you would like to see.   You may email your suggestions to any of the following program committee members;

Please bring an image of 'a photo that makes your heart sing'. Images should be brought in ".jpg" format on a CD, flash memory or USB. Images should be 1600 pixels wide or 1200 pixels high (verticals). Images may also be emailed to me  <donvon2@...> before the meeting date (please, don't email on the day of the meeting). If you want a print scanned, call me at 964-5887 before the meeting date to have it scanned. Prints are OK at the meeting  too.

This month's meeting is critical for the camera club as election of officiers for 2009 will be held.

Last month we held the scavenger hunt was held and Joe Nieters' outstanding print of a boat won overall honors. Sonya Coliver was our guest judge.

Hello Everyone and Merry Christmas,

I have been working out of town and getting ready for surgery on rotator cuff Dec. 22.  I will not be at the January Meeting due to not allowed to drive myself and not sure how I will be feeling then.  At least I am in town for a change.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The Lake Arts Council, with which our Camera Club is affiliated, is
holding a 25th anniversary celebration on Nov. 22, beginning 6:00pm at
the Osage National Golf Club.

Dinner, entertainment and dancing will celebrate the Lake Arts
Council's 25 years of existence. Tickets are $40 per person and are
available by calling 964-6366.

The Arts Council has invited our club to display some of our
photography at the event. Images must be matted, framed and ready for
display. Frames should be kept to 16" x 20" or less due to limited
space. You may bring your ready-to-hang artwork to the November 11th
meeting if you desire. Sandy hopes to have more information at that
time.

The Arts Council will also be hosting an auction and is calling for
contributions. For more information about donating for the auction,
you may contact Julie Lentz at 348-2660.

Club Members:

I had prepared to present and discuss an example of license terms and conditions that members might adopt when submitting images to the Lake of the Ozarks Convention & Visitor Bureau in exchange for their providing us (the Club) with an ad for the next year promoting the Lake Arts Photography Club.  As most of you know, we were locked out of the meeting facilities and thus unable to hold our meeting for this month.

So, I thought instead, I would provide an email and include the sample terms along with some ideas related to the topic.

I want to make it clear that this is my own opinion and is not to be considered as legal or accounting advice nor am I suggesting that club members are required to use these terms.  What I am providing is an example only and is offered to help you think through the process.  These terms are very similar to what I will be requiring for any images that I submit to the Bureau.

Below are two sets of licensing terms.  The first provides the licensee with rights to use the licensed images in print materials while the second set of terms provides for the same use on their website and via electronic means.  I think these terms will provide for all that Bureau will want to do with the images.

The terms are somewhat broad except for the duration limit of 1 year.  I think that the 1 year limit is appropriate given that the advertisement is also limited to 1 year.

In addition to the two usages (A and B), I will also include language that specifically restricts the Bureau from distributing the images for use by third parties or for use to promote or endorse third party products and services and further indicates that usage must be in the spirit of the mission of the Bureau, for promoting the Bureau itself and/or the greater Lake of the Ozarks region as a destination for travel and tourism.

These terms were generated using the PLUS (Picture Licensing Universal System) Media Selector and the PLUS Decoder.  I highly recommend that club members become familiar with the PLUS system if you license any images to others.  It has quickly become a standard for the industry.  I also recommend that you become familiar with the PLUS Glossary.

Remember, your images have value. It is important that both parties have a clear understanding of what is allowed and how images may be used.

Hi Joe,
We have never had a license term for the club.  That might be good to have.  It would be great if you could do that.  Last year was our first year doing this and it was all verbal agreements as to how the images could be used.  They did not abuse them in any way, but a license would cover things better.
Also, I tried to get into our yahoo club and change my e-mail and don't know how to do it, do you???  My e-mail is thekellings@ dishmail. net.  Thanks for your help!!!!!
I got the websites from you.... thanks!!!!  You are a huge benefit to our club!!!!
If you need anything else, let me know!

in the range of $100 - $300 per image. Also, what are the licensing
terms that will go long with the images? Will we each provide images
along with our own terms or are we submitting these as a group under
a single license? I would be happy to put together a draft set of
license terms for the group to review.

It is that time of the year again. We are trading images for
membership in the CVB. With membership we get an ad in their
publication which is about 750,000 as well as a listing on their
website. To submit your images, please send them to evan@....
They need to be 300 dpi, and there are no file restrictions, so they
can be large images also. This membership is about $1400 worth. You
can send them ASAP. Thanks!!

Camera Club to meet September 9th

The September meeting for the Lake Arts Photography Club is Tuesday, September 9th, at the main Central Bank 2nd level conference room in Osage Beach at 7 PM. Park in the US-54 street level parking lot and enter through the North door.

Please bring an image of 'Reflections'.

The September program will be a slide show by Jack Wendleton.

November will be scavenger hunt time again. Bring to the November meeting an image of four of the eight subjects, your choice. The categories are: 'Boats', 'Flowers', 'Birds', 'Reptiles', 'Clouds, Sky or Rainbow', 'Back to School', and 'Wheels'.

We have 3 new members join at the August meeting. Please welcome Tricia Williamson, Kelly Luck, and Kassidy Luck.

I will not be attending meeting tomorrow.  Work has me traveling out of town.  Sorry for not being there, this is a busy time for my job.
