Re: [Laptop_Repair] Re: Toshiba satellite M50-MX2 boot issues

not so much soaking overnight, like i said i got nothing to lose with this unit so im gonna try it, but the hp zv6000 i had i dismantled down to mainboard and the area where the spill occured, i washed it down pretty good with warm water, dabbing with a wet cloth, not totally submerged in water though, and let item dry for a good couple hours with a fan blowing on it until it was dry and eventually re assembled unit to fully working condition again. whether i got lucky or not it did work and i never had an issue with it again.

you'll probably want to pull the cmos battery and let it sit for a day prior to performing that.  Have you ever resolved any issue using that technique?  Sounds interesting.

so heres my next idea...this board is more than likely toast...im gonna strip it down to bare nothing, and soak it in alcohol for a few hours. will let stand dry overnight, for sure!! maybe in an attempt to possibly clean out a connection, chip, port, etc. i've got nothing to lose at this point and might just luck out. i did this once with an hp zv 6000 i had a while back with a liquid spill and it worked

After re-reading what posted, I remembered a similar problem that happen to a client of mine.  I pulled the unit apart and put it together again -- the machine worked. Apparently, the 2 days it sat totally pulled apart (and a potentially repaired loss wire) resolved the issue.  You just might get lucky if you put it together properly.  :)

hope you find a resolution sooner than later.

I agree with Mr. Faul,

if there is evidence of spilled fluid on the system board, and if after stipping the system down to nothing more than system board, cpu, and power you get no beep codes, the problem probably resides with the system board, cpu or both.  Either way, depending on the make and model machine, it may be more cost effective to move your data to a new/different machine.

If you can't get anything to show on the lcd panel at all even though
you get some lights and fan action, I would conclude that the
motherboard is bad. There are just too many components that have to all
be working prefectly for these things to run, and a single broken
connection inside the thickness of the motherboard or a single loose
connection under one of the large ICs like the video card IC can stop
the normal self test and boot up sequence.
