I have used active@undelete with good success. It is not free, but 40
bucks is not a lot of money if you really want the files recovered.

I usually put the hard drive with the deleted files in my desktop as a
slave drive, and scan it there. That way when you go to recover the
deleted files the program finds, you don't have to worry about
overwriting them when you select where to save the recovered data at.
