I loved my Medion Laptop but it stopped reading the CD drive after 7
months I sent it back for repair via Dixons
Medion lost it After 6 weeks I got aPackard bell from dixons (free)
I suggest Take it to Dixons let them send it back after 6 weeks you
can have packard bell with CD writer as Compo.
Medion I believe is exclusive to the Mastercare group Dixons PC

Hello i don't have this model of laptop but i am experiencing the same type of problem with an NEC 2530 laptop P133 40 ram 1 gig hd. the lights come on as far as the hard drive powering up and then nothing else happens. I was told also from previous messages that this may be a mobo or cpu problem. would this fix that you have probably work for this model or not. TIA...

There seems to be a pattern on the IBM Thinkpad A31 model that over
time results in a blank screen or no POST issue. When the power
button is pressed, all the LEDs come on for a second, then all but
the far right LED go out and at this point the system should POST but
it will not.

There is a 75% chance your problem is within the motherboard. We have
developed a fix for this condition. There is quite a bit of work
involved and it's not a cheap repair, but keep in mind it's about 1/4
of what a new replacement motherboard would cost.

If you are experiencing this type of behavior, please contact me for
further details.

Thank you,

Joe K

Hello, does anybody know of any books or sources of information on
the reinstallation process of an OS (like XP pro) on various laptops?
I think the steps would be: (1)back-up existing drivers (2)format
the HD (3)install the OS (4)reinstall the drivers and update them
if necessary..............is that right?? Any advice would be
appreciated!

Hello,

It's highly unlikely the same problem, our "fix" consists of
replacing a few components including the CPU host BGA chip.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Reinstalling an OS isn't
a big complicated procedure is most cases.

Subject: NEC Versa Vxi, keep rebooting
max_kowk

I have a laptop, NEC Versa Vxi which I bought 3 years ago. A few
month ago, it started to have a problem of keeping rebooting, very
frequently. No matter booted in Windows or Dos, it will reboot itself
in a few minutes, and keep doing this. Even in BIOS setup window, it
may reboot itself. The screen just goes into dark, everything stops,
only the power-on LED is on. If I hit the keyboard, hit the case, it
then starts to reboot. This problem happens in both battery mode and
AC supply mode. And sometimes, when I try to turn it on, it has no
response except the power-on LED, after I press the power button.

Since the warrenty has expired, I have to figure out the problem by
myself. Could anyone kindly give me some suggestions on how to debug
this problem?

Thanks a lot
Max.

Hi I have had similar problems with Packard Bell silver note laptops
which I believe use NEC mobo, I posted on 3 forums for a cure
although the ones I had do not respond to a bash.

I replaced

CPU
Memory
capacitors in the CPU supply
flashed to latest bios

the only thing I have not tried is to replace the dimm sockets which
seems to be a problem on Sony Vaios at the moment.

I have an Inspiron 3800..and took it apart with the complete manual under Dell...and manual...it was very helpful...the first thing that has ever been helpful from Dell. I have found many with the 3800, about 2 weeks after the warrenty expired...it all started breaking down...Dell wanted $280. just to look at it. They would not give me any assistance in where I could locate a motherboard and said there was not a small lithium battery in it...they are wrong, it is located on the motherboard!!! So of course, they would not tell me the battery size or numbers either. So if you need parts for your Laptop, contact me...as it looks like a new laptop...just will not boot up.

I have a problem with my Advent 7004, when switched on the only thing
that works is the cpu fan. I have been told that it's the
motherboard and is a common fault with this computer, can anyone
confirm this and if so where can I buy a replacement motherboard?
My next problem is taking it apart, I've removed all the screws in
the base & back panel, taken out the HD & battery but it still seems
to be secured somehow in the centre of the machine, does anyone know
how and by what?

Hi I do not know this specific model, but most the top comes off then
you have to extract the mobo to get at the DC connector.

This post is not so much repair as much as it is a request for
expectations.

That's because my friend's V505BX is considerably less than 90 days
old, so there's warranty coverage. It was also a display model at
Comp USA (and I'm starting to hear stories, too).

The touchpad does not work on any level of precision. If I drag
diagonally, the pointer sometimes follows in a pure vertical or
horizontal motion. We've already installed the Alps touchpad update
from Sony's support site, and we've even tried installing a "generic"
driver as well. We're using a USB mouse now, but we're planning to
get that dang thang fixed.

We're just not sure what to expect, the options we have, and the best
way to proceed from those options. Ideally, we want someone to make a
house call to fix the thing very soon.

You'll also see this post on the Vaio Village group.

Thanks for reading.

Noel,

There is a method you must use to install 2000 or XP on _any Compaq_ computer. You start by using a drive wiping tool such as Acronis partition expert.(no im not pro Acronis)Why I would, and do use Acronis partition expert is because you are able to boot from the Acronis CD. Be sure that your XP disk is not gouged or scratched.I used to have a lot of problems with a certain XP CD simply because it was scratched. Also, the master boot record(MBR) may have an error within it, an easy way to rid yourself of this problem is before you wipe your drive or install XP,insert a windows 98 CD and type this EXACTLY as you see it here _WITHOUT_ the parenthesees "FDISK /mbr" notice the space between the word FDISK and the forward slash. this will reset any faults to your MBR. after your install try to adjust your screensize from: control panel,Display, screen area. if this does not work, it is in the bios settings. WARNING: I take NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACTIONS YOU USE ON YOUR COMPUTER! all the above is sound advice from personal experience!  AJAX MUNROE

John,

the power button / speaker bar has a screw on the left side. Remove
that screw and slide the speaker bar to the right and off after you
pull the cable from the connector on the motherboard.

Then unscrew the keyboard lockdown screw and pull the cable connector
locks on both side of the keyboard connector upward to release the
keyboard cable.

Remove the keyboard.

There are 4 gold screws holding down the hard drive caddy to the
motherboard. Remove the 4 screws and pull the hard drive up and out
of the system.

Reverse for assembly.

used to have a lot of problems with a certain XP CD simply because it
was scratched. Also, the master boot record(MBR) may have an error
within it, an easy way to rid yourself of this problem is before you
wipe your drive or install XP,insert a windows 98 CD and type this
EXACTLY as you see it here _WITHOUT_ the parenthesees "FDISK /mbr"
notice the space between the word FDISK and the forward slash. this
will reset any faults to your MBR. after your install try to adjust
your screensize from: control panel,Display, screen area. if this does
not work, it is in the bios settings. WARNING: I take NO

Hi,

I hope it is ok to ask this question here....

How can I tell exactly what hardware is inside this laptop.....
(outside of trying to open it)......

The control panel is no help; disk was just reformatted and new
software installed......

Thanks

Adele

Well, if I understand the question, a program such as
Sisoft Sandra or AIDA32 will give you information on
what hardware is inside the laptop.
