Description

The genus Lavandula is native to the lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea (including the Canary Islands and Madeira) east through Ethiopia and Arabia to India. It includes more than 30 species, dozens of subspecies, and hundreds of hybrids and selected cultivars. At least since Medieval times, lavenders have been sources of perfumes, soaps, flavorings, medicines, and crafts. Today they are grown for their fragrant leaves and flowers, as nectar sources for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds and for their landscape value. All these and any other aspects of lavenders are grist for this mill. Join this international group and exchange your knowledge and experiences with others who share this interest.
