this is close to the biggest drawback, the unit has a partition in the
Harddrive to run application and this is the most disappointing thing
palmOne engineers ever done to the LifeDrive, let me explain, when you wanna
open an application which require big memory it'll copy the app from the
hard drive to the another partition in the hard drive as well and that's
'cuz the hard drive to consume a lot of power cuz the drive will keep
spinning!!!

So the delay not exactly 6sec it depend in how big is the size of the app,
it'll take from 3 to 6 sec to run documents to go for example.

Anyway I still think palmOne can fix that very simply by adding a smaller
chip so when a program opened it should copy it to a part of the chip memory
and run it from there other than running it from the hard drive, I don't
know if that can be fixed with a batch or how they gonna do it 'cuz Garnet
has its limitation, but you know with all that I'm still sure 100% that the
update will improve the LifeDrive and fix many of this issues and palmOne
will release it soon as they promised.

I'm just wondering why they try to pull it all in there own! They could've
used Samsung technology or work harder with palmSource to get the LifeDrive
in shape, as it's not only the biggest thing to palmOne, but it'll also
prove that palmOS is still the best solution for mobile devices,

What do you think is the biggest drawback of the LD? Please post.

I've been reading reviews for days, but the "con" that stopped me in my
tracks yesterday was in a review (can't remember where) that mentioned
this: everytime you start up a new app (that hasn't yet been run on the
LD) and/or maybe even load a "new" file, the LD takes SIX SECONDS to
spin up the hard drive from "wait" mode so that it can then load the
app/file from the HD into RAM. But here's the bad part: during that
six seconds, you can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with the unit. Was this
reviewer being accurate?

In Palmville, six seconds is an eternity.

Exactly, and some how it feels like its a TestDrive more than its LifeDrive,
exactly like the TT the start of the innovation of the Tungsten line, then
it got better with TT2 and almost perfect with the TT3 if not for the
battery life; what I'm trying to say is that the LifeDrive will open the
door for the next LifeDrive...

I have the Treo 650 and I can have a extra battery and swap it like a cell
phone battery. Because the Lifedrive is a Mobile Manager I would have
hopedbthat it had a replacable battery (like my 650) like a laptop would
allow.

It's not replaceable >:( let's say your out in a CoffeeShop doing some
mails or something, and you run out of batt in the middle of your work, are
you gonna look for a power socket or a replaceable battery? The bad thing is
there no PTG for the new connector yet, hope they release one soon, 'til
then I think I'll have a car charger and a couple of chargers in the car in
the office and at home, the good thing it's compatible with the T650, TE2
and TT5 so you can get charger from your friends in the office :)

We have one test unit with one of the guyz in our PUG they releasing a

The battery life is not bad 3hrs of WiFi usage, or 5hrs of MP3 player with

Units, but not having an opportunity of actually seeing one, it's hard to
base a purchase purely on pictures I've seen.

I would like to know how well the battery stands up, how difficult or easy
to establishing a WiFi connection, how does the screen look, etc.

Has anyone actually seen one of these devices, or own one of them?

I think if you can get a good price for your TC, and you won’t miss the built-in Keyboard then you’ll defiantly love the LifeDrive, but I really think if you can wait ‘til its available in store near you or something so you can compare it yourself,

I currently own a Tungsten C, but am seriously considering purchasing a LifeDrive.  Three questions:

I use my Tungsten C to listen to Old Time Radio, so I don’t really care that much about the stereo vs. mono issue.  One thing I don’t like about the Tungsten C is that the sound system’s volume is too low.  Is the sound system on the LifeDrive louder?

Obviously the LifeDrive has a larger screen, but other than that is there any noticeable difference in the screen.  I LOVE the screen on the Tungsten C.  It is by far my favorite feature.

Wi-Fi on my Tungsten C works sporadically because of interference.  My desktop systems with Wi-Fi work fine.  Is the Wi-Fi card in the LifeDrive better than the one in the Tungsten C?

I would concider a 650 if they would get rid of the little keyboard, expand
the screen down
in its place and add a sd card for expandability. This would be my ideal
version of a true
pda cell phone. Can't stand trying to read my email on the little screen of

I really like the LifeDrive, my main problem was that I was so used to my
T|T3 specially in meetings, but now it's kinda noise the screen doesn't stop
squealing every time I turn on the T3 so I got a Treo 650 which is really a
true mobility device, but I can't use it in meeting, once I start taking
notes people forget about the meetings and look at me like I'm playing games
or answering SMS/eMails or something, so I think the LifeDrive already have
a position in my everyday life,

Mobile Manager

If they want this to take off right, the life drive needs to be similar to
the cell phone of
blackberry. Instead of connecting it to a cell phone to get email, etc., it
should be able to
do this itself. Take a look at the nokia 9600. Nice device but small screen.
If palm could
pull that off, they wouldn't be able to make enough of them.

pa1mOne is very close to officially announcing it latest device, the
LifeDrive Mobile Manager. It is the first device in palmOne's
newest device category that they coin the Mobile Managers. Mobile
managers are designed for customers who are eager to take full
advantage of the trend toward "digital everything" -- from documents
and email to music, images and video, as standalone files or in
organized folders; "In studying customer trends, we found that some
people want to carry dozens of documents and hundreds of songs while
others want to carry a thousand-plus photos and enjoy videos," said
Page Murray, pa1mOne vice president of marketing. "Organization
functions were highly valued by nearly all our customers, but some
wanted much more business and personal file-management capabilities.
We listened and will deliver a new category of mobile-computing
product that will let customers fuse their own mix of personal and
business content in ways never before possible in either handheld
computers or Smartphones. Palmloyal.com editor,

Carl W. Brooks, looks at this new device and offers his commentary.
As is pa1mOne's Status Quo, they will release a product that will
be lacking in some area, but will be refined by its user base's
input and perfected in later releases. I think they are on track
with this category and the devices within. I can't wait to see what
the low end and higher end models will offer and this category
matures. Will I get one? I would get one if the right situation
arose. I would need to be able to use my Treo 650 as a Bluetooth
phone with the LifeDrive. Now put the same 4GB on the next Treo
Smartphone and I place my pre-order now.

Every body missed that last year, when palmOne registered the name
LifeDrive for it's new line, according to brighthand it was exactly
registered Aug.27,2004

The picture circulating in the web is 95% close to the original
handheld, but the real thing is way betta...
