In this first International LightWave 3D User Group meeting, we will discuss the
following topics:

1.Stereoscopic 3-D and where LightWave 3D Fits in the pipeline.
2.The state of 3D today and finding a job in this deflated economy.

Our panelists in this meeting will be, (alphabetical) Rob Powers, Larry Shultz
and Daniel Smith. All three of our panelists are very experienced in Stereo
cinema with credits including Spy Kids 3D, James Cameron's Avatar, and Aliens of
the Deep (Lightstorm). With their years of experience and versatile backgrounds
in Hollywood and TV these three artists bring a unique discussion to the table
for both topics (stereo / jobs).

Your roll in the International LightWave 3D User Group Meetings:
We want to hear from you! This is an open discussion where we will be fielding
questions from you to our panelists (microphone required).

So register today for this free webinar and come see what the buzz is all about!

About our Panelists (alphabetical):

Robert Powers:
Throughout 2004 Robert worked on James Cameron's "Aliens of the Deep"
Stereoscopic IMAX film on which he did creature design, rigging, texturing,
animation, and in addition, he did the main title for the movie. In 2005 Robert
worked closely with Microsoft, AMD, and Newtek to produce the first all 64-bit
Windows animation in history for Bill Gates' Keynote for the Windows 64-bit OS
launch.

In June 2005, Robert was asked by James Cameron to be the first 3D artist hired
for the "Avatar" feature film project. Working closely with James Cameron and
the core design team Robert provided 3D concept and motion studies of key
character, creature, and environmental assets for the film. Later Robert's role
evolved and he created and supervised the first ever "Virtual Art Department"
for the film. As Supervisor of the Avatar Virtual Art Department he and his
team developed all real-time environmental assets for the production, and
developed numerous innovative "Virtual" workflow techniques and tools that
defined the process.

Robert continued his efforts as Virtual Art Department Supervisor on the Peter
Jackson / Steven Spielberg animated feature film "TinTin" where he organized
and built a team in Los Angeles and worked in New Zealand with the Weta Digital
Team.

---

Larry Shultz
Larry Shultz - has been involved with computer graphics since the mid-1980s. He
began using LightWave 3D in its early days for TV commercials and other projects
at a CGI company he co-founded during the early '90s called The Animation
Factory in Albuquerque.

Since those days Larry has worked for such companies as American Laser Games,
Sony Development, Discovery Channel, Netter Digital, Foundation Imaging,
Amalgamated Pixels, Squarehouse Entertainment Warner Bros., and Lightstorm, as
well as working on a freelance basis for many other companies. Larry is very
experienced in almost every aspect of LightWave, working as lead artist,
technical director, and in many other positions on a variety of projects.

---
Daniel L. Smith:
Daniel L. Smith is a VFX supervisor and 3D Stereoscopic expert. He has worked on
feature films, television series, commercials, and special venue films.

Daniel has been very involved with Visual Effects and 3D stereoscopy for nearly
18 years. His diverse path has allowed him to work alongside some truly unique,
talented, and visionary artists in the Visual FX industry. Daniel also got to
work with Allen Hastings and Stuart Ferguson when implementing stereo rendering
capabilities into LightWave 3D back in the late 90's.

Daniel has worked with Academy award winning supervisors and directors such as
Joel Hynek (Predator, What Dreams May Come, Judge Dredd), John Gatea (The Matrix
Trilogy, Speed Racer), and Will Vinton( Claymation, California Raisins.) Daniel
has supervised stereoscopic projects for Busch Gardens, Radio City Music Hall,
and Santa's Village. He was also the stereoscopic supervisor on the most
successful 3D movie of all time, Spy-Kids 3D (according to the 2007 edition of
the Guinness Book of World Records).

We are proud to present these sessions free of charge and we are working hard to
line up professional artists in the coming meetings for you to interact with.

I might approach your situation by rendering thrusters as a separate pass with no lens flare then compositing.

Hi Brian,

Happy 4th of July, hope you're having a nice weekend.  Tried it, worked, looks real nice.  Now all we have left to do is finish our "teaser" is re-doing our titling, and finishing our "bad guys"...

Do you know anything about recursion art?  SpinQuad had a Webinar a couple of weeks ago and we emailed them about a tutorial about it, we never hearde anything back... Have some ideas using it for our bad guys and they did asked Renn for a description as to  how we wanted to use the recursion art.  That's when we didn't hear anything back, for 2 weeks now we've been trying to get a motion path together for "light" as the recursion art was used in their webinar.  But without a tutorial, we're lost...
Thanks,

Mark

An easy way is to apply a color to the interior of the thrustors (blue or
orange) turn the surface luminance up to 100, turn up the glow intensity in the
surfaces Advanced tab, then turn on the Enable Glow in the Image Processing
window.

Also check out http://www.meshweaver.com/ and go to the tutorials section. There
is a thrustor exercise in there.

Good Luck

Hey all,
Ill be showing off a few tips 'n tricks in for an hour.

The first half of the class will cover how to use LightWave 3D Displacements and
Dynamics to control an objects animation in minutes with out rigging it and key
framing it.

The second half of the class will cover creating an explosion in LightWave 3D
using geometry rather than particles and hypervoxels. This method may not be
perfect for all your explosion projects, but it will be a great trick to have in
your bag and can save you time and money on future. Who knows this trick might
be able to be applied to other special effects besides blowing things up. Join

-Load all objects into Modeler (you can load them all at once)
-Position yourself in the first model (or the model you want to be the base-object)
-Put one of the other objects in the background (youcan use the Layers Panl for that)
-In the Vertex Maps tab, Click "Bkg to Morph"
-Repeat for the rest of the objects

Special Sessions during the course

Workshops for Specialization (Clay modeling, Anatomy study, Photography, color theory etc.)

Specialisation (4 months)

Objective: To train the students their respective specializations in 3D animation production.

The specialization course has various streams in which a student can specialize. The choice of specialization is based on two factors i.e. Student Showreel & Personal Interview with the Faculty. The six areas of specialization are:

Modeling

Texturing

Lighting

Rigging

Animation

Vfx & Compositing

The students go through a rigorous training schedule in the chosen area of specialization. The training methodology adopted here is in the same manner as it would be in a production studio. The students are made to work on examples and lab exercises specially designed by our experts in the studio

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the specialization term, the student will be able to demonstrate expertise in his / her area of specialization. The student is more focused and ready to work in a production environment.

Production (2 months)

Objective: To make the students ready-to-work professionals for an Animation studio.

In this term, the students work in the Graphiti studio on live projects. This ensures that the students are well exposed to the working methodology and culture of an Animation Studio. The expertise level of the students also increases, thus making them ready to work professional in an animation outfit. In the last one month of the term, the students make their show reel which they will use in interviews at other studios.

Learning Outcome: At the end of this term, the students are ready to work in any animation outfit, with a high level of expertise in their area of specialization.

“The student will become a complete Animation professional and not just a tool user”.

Faculty

The Faculty of Graphiti School of Animation come with a strong background of Animation training and production. Every Faculty has a balanced blend of artistic and technical knowledge in animation, so as to impart the students with the best of both the facets of animation.

The average experience of the faculties at Graphiti is 5 years. All the more, the faculties are been groomed by none other than the “Father of Indian animation” Mr. Ram Mohan himself in the specific manner of training that Graphiti school of Animation will follow.

Saw the demo of the turboSquid fbx motion import and wanted to try it out for myself.I seem to be having the same issue with every import. All the bones making up the left side along with 90% of the spine bones are fine but every bone making up right is inverted on the Y. Also the Root bone (hips)  rotation seems off as well. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Is it neccessary to DL all the updates and install them before
installing 9.5. Does the order of installation matter?

If you open up the options (by pressing O-key)or I think it is actually
in the display options, (by pressing D-key) you should find the option
to hide menu unhide menu options....you can also asign the them to the
left or right of screen from there aswell.

hope this helps
