I have an old PPC Linkstation that is somewhat broken... (search the
archives for my name to see the nature of the problems). I am cleaning
house, and am willing to give this machine to anyone who will pay the
shipping.

I'm in the US, and I'm guessing that will be about $10-$15 in the US,
maybe $25 overseas. That's just a guess, so don't hold me to that.

The unit is in physically good condition. I replaced the fan, and will
include the original fan if it's still in the box.

I am offering it without hard drive, and without any promise that it
will work. I can accept payment via PayPal.

Is anyone interested? If so, please reply off-list.

Chris

I've just swapped out my 300gb drive for a 750gb drive.

I've cloned my old drive on a PC via Acronis True Image. I've kept the small 200mb partitions the same size, and the data has been retained in a 278Gb partition.

How do I expand this partition to use the remainder of the 750Gb?

Hi,

Probably best to wipe the drive clean and let the firmware upgrade program create the partitions.

Thanks.

Andrew.

Hi,

I pulled the old drive and put in a new 750gb unit. When I power up the Linkstation Beeps a two tone beep for quite some time and the error light flashes 6 times - i.e. Hard Drive problem.

I can't see the drive via the Internet Explorer or from the NasNavigator2, how do I reinitialise the new drive. (It currently has no partitions, and I've deleted these via my PC.

Thanks

Hi,

Download the firmware upgrade pack for your Linkstation via the Buffalo website.

Ensure you have DHCP enabled.  When the Linkstation is connected, it should pick up a DHCP address from your router.

Turn off your Windows firewall and run the upgrade utility.  It should find the Linkstation there.  It may take two times running this to get it working – first for the partition creation and then for the upload of the firmware partition itself.

I have done this a couple of times and it works ok.

Thanks.

Andrew.

How do I force me Linkststion Pro into EM so that I can completely  rebuild the unit from scratch?

I've tried powering it on three time in a row.

I've also tried powering it on while holding down the reset button on the rear.

I need to delete/rebuild the main data partition as I've upgraded the drive to a larger volume.

thanks

Hi

I've tried a search and don't get much information.

Whats the biggest HDD I can swap the 250GB one I have to? Is there an upper
limit the hardware can control or just the limit it's hard to get anything
greater than 500gb in IDE form any more?

I recently tried to attach an external USB drive 1 TB...which the Linkstation
HD-HLAN160, (or similar) could not mount. I then manually formated a 500GB EXT3
partition using Gparted...and the Linkstation could not mount it. Is it just
too big? Anything (within reason) that can be done to use this external drive
with my full linkstation?

And sort of related...Is it worth my effort to attempt to put in a larger drive
inside the Linkstation, or at 5 years old, should I just replace it?

According the the manual for the Linkstation HD or HG LAN series drives, you must format the drive through the Linkstation while it is attached to the USB port.  Attach the drive, and navigate to the USB Disk Setup section of the software and select USB Disk Setup.  This should format the drive (I don't have this model, so I am going from the manual).

On the Linkstations that I have (LS-GL 750 and QuadStation) you must format the drive in this way.  In fact with the Quad-Station, which has two USB ports, you must alway connect the external drive to the same USB port that it was formatted on, or it will not work.  When you connect the drive to the Linkstation, it should be recognizable, but not accessible by the drive until you format it through the Linkstation.

From the manual:

An attached USB Disk can be configured as an additional shared folder for
additional storage space. The attached USB Disk must be formatted by the
LinkStation before it can be used on LinkStation. If a USB Disk is attached
to LinkStation, it must be attached to the rear USB Port.

Link to the manual is here is you don't have a copy:

Slight correction to my previous post.  The USB drive is formatted by going to the Maintenance section, and then choosing the Select a Disk to Format option.

Firmware 2.27

Updated WebAccess 2.1 to 2.2
Updated lighttpd-1.4.13 (ssl) to lighttpd-1.4.19 (ssl) For WebAccess

This wasnt released with 2.26 due to thinking there was a new bug
it turns out there was a bug in 2.0 and 2.1 also

HTTPS/SSL Encryption turned on and uploading large files example
LS-DHGL_FW_227-shmod7.rar
results in the WebAccess crashing small files work, no Encryption works
IE8 works either way

This was confirmed by testing Buffalo's latest WebAccess firmware
HS-DHGL_211_101b.zip that runs WebAccess 2.0
The result was the same with my Firmware 2.26

WebAccess isnt coded that well by Buffalo the logfile is a joke
I have fixed up the error log slightly compared to Buffalo's release
due to updating components and such

but im not going in and fixing the HTTPS/Firefox crash and error log anymore
thats for buffalo to do not me!!

if you want this fixed goto http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/bd-p/0101
and tell them you are running the latest HS-DHGL_211_101b firmware
and when HTTPS/SSL Encryption is on Webaccess crashes uploading large files with
Firefox

on a side note the heat on the top of my v2 linkstation I mentioned with
Firmware 2.25
is down to the psu on v2 linkstations running hotter than v1 linkstations
and is nothing to do with apps

Right, as Michael indicated, unsubscribing cannot be done by replying to a
thread.

If you want to unsubscribe from email notifications of new posts, you can either
follow these instructions:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/original/members/manage/manage-26.html

Or just head to http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LinkStation_General and
click "Edit Membership" along the top after logging in.

You can adjust there your membership, and even what kind of email notifications
you get, e.g. a Daily Digest of communications.

I was wondering if anyone can help me achieve adding a Media server to my Linkstation. I have a Roku music player and always have to power up a PC to hear music from my roughly 50 gigabytes of MP3's. The Roku uses upnp to play music. My linkstation is the original ppc based HD-H120LAN but has a 200 Gig hard drive since the original 120 Gig crashed. The software level is 1.47 (the latest from Buffalo). i have read a lot about people who have done this, but there does not seem to be a "cookbook" receipe. There seems to be a lot of media servers and a lot of literature on how to install. Any help, especially in a cookbook form would be greatly appreciated. thank you, Lou

Seems fine for me. I even tried visiting a non-cached page and confirmed its up

There could have been some outage, but all looks fine at this time.

I've setup shares and can copy data to them. But after about ten minutes I can no longer access the shares. I can still see th4e NAS in the Navigator, and can access the printer, and Info Share, and the Web Client.

If I reboot the NAS then I can see the shares again, but even when I'm writing data I loose access.

I think the Western Digital WD5000AAKS is going to sleep and then can't be seen by the NAS itself.

Do you know if there is a setting the the Web Interface to stop the drive sleeping?

Can I prevent the WD500AAKS going to sleep?

First post, so be gentle!!

My sole objective is just to get a Logitech Squeezebox system runninhg from a
recently purchased Buffalo Linksatation Live (Type LS-CHL V2D08 , 1Tb). It has
firmware v 1.24. The Linkstation shows up on my screen, and the Memeo back up
seems to be happily working away. I know next to nothing about Linux, but have
got to use it a bit in my frstrated efforts so far, see below.

The rest of the network is two computers both running XP. The Buffalo software
has only been loaded onto my computer, so far.

I managed with the help of Buffalo Technology to finally get web access,
clicking on the icon, though I had to use IE instead of my usual Firefox.

I then followed a detailed article in user forums> third party hardware at
slimdevices.com. The article was "Even easier Squeezebox install on Buffalo
Linkstations Pro and Live" by user Tired Legs. I got as far as running
acp_commander.jar using the cmd.exe box, in order to get telnet access. In spite
of positive return messages (the last said "you can now telnet to your box as
user 'root' providing no/an empty password") I have been unable to use telnet.

I nwas directed to other forums and found this connection there.

When I enter "telnet" followed by the IP address of the unit, in the cmd.exe
window, the response is "Could not open connection to the host on port
23:connect failed"

The windows firewall was disabled at the time. I have read of others getting the
port 23 response.

I have very little experience with Linux but am good at following instructions!

Any bright ideas?

I have one running on my box here ..

and I'll tell you ... it's a lot of trouble, because their .deb package doesn't support power pc.

it will be a pain if you are not a linux/pearl expert.

First post, so be gentle!!

My sole objective is just to get a Logitech Squeezebox system runninhg from a recently purchased Buffalo Linksatation Live (Type LS-CHL V2D08 , 1Tb). It has firmware v 1.24. The Linkstation shows up on my screen, and the Memeo back up seems to be happily working away. I know next to nothing about Linux, but have got to use it a bit in my frstrated efforts so far, see below.

The rest of the network is two computers both running XP. The Buffalo software has only been loaded onto my computer, so far.

I managed with the help of Buffalo Technology to finally get web access, clicking on the icon, though I had to use IE instead of my usual Firefox.

I then followed a detailed article in user forums> third party hardware at slimdevices.com. The article was "Even easier Squeezebox install on Buffalo Linkstations Pro and Live" by user Tired Legs.
