I have a HS-DH500GL and because of constant network and drive activity rarely
leave it on. Is this normal? I worry that maybe it is being accessed or probed
from sources outsie my home network. I don't understand what it is doing with
all of my computers in my network off yet it still shows network and hard drive
activity activity. Is there any way to get it to sleep when it is not being
used?

Probed from outside your LAN? You /do/ have a router and are not just
plugging the ISP feed into a hub? Get thee to www.grc.com and use
ShieldsUP. Once you are "stealth" the activity seen by your linksys is
from your LAN.
My linksys stays on a lot. I think it is a combination of "when to
sleep" time and network activity.
Network activity.... when you map a drive letter to the linksys Windows
is going to ping it once in a while while your PC is in use.
When all the PC's go to sleep, the linksys does, too.
You can try un-mapping to the linksys... it should still appear in
Explorer in Network Places. yeah, I'm still using XP.

Hi, has anyone successfully added a second internal hard drive to this NAS?
How, like this?
Changed to an IDE-ribbon with "slave connector"
Used the same, internal power supply as the original hdd?
Formatted the hdd to ext3, added to fstab:
/dev/hdb3 /mnt/extra ext3 defaults,noatime 0 0
Then run
mkdir /mnt/extra
reboot
Ohter things to watch out for?
Cheers!

No sorry
the aim of the firmware is to have a
clean and fast working firmware
not to add every last option
I have extended the feature set of this device quite a bit alreay
and the performance
I get requests all the time for this added and that added

I tried and succeeded, thou it was too heavy for LSPro.
Try NZBGet instead http://nzbget.sourceforge.net/Main_Page
There is even OptWare installation guide and Web-interface (don't remember if
any changes were required, but it should be relatively simple). Works great on
my box.

Hi.
I just installed the HS-DHGL_FW_230-shmod10. I tried to log into bittorent
webgui and it asked for a password. I tried <blank>/<blank> as it's how it was
in shmod9 but it wouldn't work. So I tried admin/<blank> and it worked. As I got
used to previous setting I changed it to <blank>/<blank> and now I cannot get
access to webgui at all. Neither <blank>/<blank> nor admin/<blank> works any
more. I tried to re-set to factory defaults, re-flash the FW and even
force-flash shmod9 but nothing worked. I tried to search for config file
manually. Tried to replace settings.dat with settings.dat.old in
/usr/local/bittorent but it had no effect. Is there any way to reset the
password?
Thanks,
Pawel.
Solved:
connect via SSH
go to /etc/init.d
run:
./bittorrent.sh StopBT
./bittorrent.sh init
./bittorrent.sh configure
./bittorrent.sh StartBT
Log into WebUI using username: admin / password" (blank)

I'm trying to push the shmod10 firmware to a TeraStation Live II but the
terastation lsupdate says that it cannot find any devices. I have 4 of them on
the network and it can't find any of them.
All are accesabile through webgui... but the lsupdate cannot find them.
i remember that there was a switch you could place in the .ini file, something
like /force to force the update.
if anyone has any ideas can you pleaes post?
Thanks a bunch!
Its not for a TeraStation is why

No real reason to update from mod10
I did this for myself in august
and decided to post it incase anyone wants it
as i doubt i will be updating anything else in a while
Firmware 2.31
NasNavi 2.35
Putty 0.61
rm usr/local/share/doc

I am hoping that someone on this forum can help me.
I think I actually have two issues, but need advise.
I have an 8TB LinkStation Quad with 4-2TB drives in RAID = 6TB.
I have it set up into 2 shares of 3TB each.
I currently have two 3TB WD External Drives on a PogoPlug on the network that I
sync with the LS shares, because I can not get them recognized by the LS Quad.
I am a paranoid backup person, so my data goes like this:
Working drives in desktop -> Shares on LS Quad -> 3TB drives
I am trying to mount the 3TB drives to the LS Quad and be able to get rid of the
PogoPlug, because it is a pain and requires special drivers and junk.
My two questions:
1) Has anybody gotten the 8 USB drives mod to work on a Linkstation Quad with
firmware 1.11?
2) Is there any way to mod the LS Quad to accept 3 TB drive? I am open to
loading an OpenNAS or similar, but they do not appear to work with 4TB drives
either.
I have a linkstation that was working great till recently running free link with
GUI management tool webmin. Now I am left with a Linkstation HD-HLAN v2 MIPS
(LS2) with a base image installed on a new HD.. Is there any way to get it back
to running freelink (or something like it) and webmin?
I have tried reloading freelink on it, but most of the updates fail because the
sources are no longer available.
Any Help would be great

Is there a telnet daemon running or is port 23 listened to by the
xinetd daemon?

Hi,
I have a LS live (unlocked) and currently configuring it to mirror contents via
rsync to an external server. I notice that the version of rsync on the box is
3.0.3 and I'm wondering if anyone has attempted to update it to 3.0.9 yet?
If so, could you advise me which rpm package to use? Can I just take the current
ARM compilation or is there a specific build I should be using for the LS?
Many thanks.
