Greetings Eveyone,

Although Malaysia is a net oil exporter, Energy security is an
important priority. The Malaysian Government has provided tax
incentives for companies generating renewable energy and companies
undertaking energy conservation projects with additional incentives
in the 2009 Malaysian Budget per NST:

Import duty and sales tax exemption on solar photovoltaic system
equipment for the use of third parties be given to importers
including photovoltaic service providers approved by the Energy
Commission;

Sales tax exemption on the purchase of solar heating equipment from
local manufacturers;

Import duty and sales tax exemption on energy efficient equipment
such as high efficiency motors and insulation materials be given to
importers;

Sales tax exemption on locally manufactured energy efficient consumer
goods such as refrigerators, air-conditioners, lighting, fans and
televisions.

The above incentives are for applications received by the Ministry of
Finance from 30 August to 31 December, 2010.

On the proposed incentives, the Malaysia Energy Centre National
Project Leader of Solar Projects, Ahmad Hadri Haris said the import
duty and sales tax exemption would encourage more people to install
the system.

Malaysia is also promoting the use of hybrid cars, which use dual
energy storage system-gasoline and electric. In line with the aim to
encourage local car manufacturers and assemblers to gear for the
assembly of such cars, franchise holders of completely built-up units
(CBU) hybrid passenger cars of less than 2000cc will be given100 %
import duty exemption and a 50 % excise duty exemption on new CBU
hybrid cars. The incentive is for applications received by the
Ministry of Finance from 30 August to 31 December, 2010.

Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Atsushi
Fujimoto, in welcoming the proposal said the global trend is toward
the use of hybrid cars as they are more environment- friendly.

Datul Shahrin Zahari, Chairman of Premier Hybrid Cars Sdn Bhd, the
other hybrid car company in the country, said the tax break would
spur the growth of the infant hybrid sub-sector.

Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) President, Datuk Aishah Ahmad
also welcomed the new incentive on hybrid cars.
