Hello Everyone,

The Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tan Sri Muhyiddin
Mohd Yassin is confident that despite the global uncertainties, this
year's foreign direct investment (FDI) into Malaysia is expected to
exceed the record quantum received in 2006 and 2007.

There was also an encouraging sign of FDIs coming from more countries
including the Asean countries other than Singapore, Australia and New
Zealand, besides the US, Europe and Japan, the Minister said after
launching the Malaysia-India Business Council in Kuala Lumpur, per
the Star.

Indian and Japanese investors have also shown keen interest to invest
in Malaysia's services sector, which is currently under review with a
view to liberalise some sub-sectors.

Meanwhile, the Minister reiterated that Malaysia is focusing on
attracting high value added industries. In this context, he called on
investors from countries like India and Japan to come on board in
fields like the information and communication technology (ICT)
industry.

Meanwhile, Malaysia is unperturbed by the higher investment outflows
compared to FDI inflows last year, as reported in the United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad) World Investment Report
2008.

The higher overseas investments reflected Malaysian companies'
expansion of their businesses abroad, the Minister said.

On trade, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin said Malaysia had gained from
the rapid economic expansion in India where bilateral trade between
the two countries increased 15.2% to US$7.88 billion in 2007.
Malaysia's exports to India, the country's 10th largest export
destination, increased 7.6% to US$5.84 billion in 2007 from 2006.

For the first seven months of the year, Malaysia's exports to India
reached US$4.3 billion, registering a higher double-digit growth of
26.3% over the corresponding period last year, while imports from
India rose a hefty 79.6% to US$1.97 billion for the same period.

One of our main goals at DK Malaysia is to promote business
development, investment, trade, and tourism to Malaysia and we serve
and assist MITI, Ministry of International Trade and Industry
