Greetings Everyone,

The State of Penang expects to attract at least RM100 million in
investments from the Middle East soon to develop halal-related
businesses.

Next week, the state will host a delegation comprising several large-
and medium-sized Saudi-based companies, who will be in Penang to
follow-up on talks initiated by the State Government officials during
their visit to the Middle East some three weeks ago, State Domestic
Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee Chairman, Abdul Malik Abdul
Kassim said at a media conference in George Town per NST.

Among the companies are Al-Balagh Group which is involved in food and
meat processing, cattle rearing and halal supermarket chain stores;
Al-Hayat a cutlery and stainless steel products company; Al-Hayat
Solar Energy, a manufacturer of solar panels and Al-Takamol, a food
processing and packaging company.

Abdul Malik said Middle East investors are also considering Penang as
a location for real-estate development and managing syariah-compliant
resorts. The Al-Jawhara Group of hotels and apartments from Dubai is
keen to manage syariah-compliant hotels in Penang, while a Saudi-
based conglomerate has indicated interest to invest in the real
estate hotel development in Penang, he added.

The companies that are keen to set up halal-related products and
activities will be offered land at the Bukit Minyak Industrial park
in Seberang Prai on the mainland. The State Government is also
expected to initiate talks with three airlines in the Middle East to
commence direct flights to Penang, aimed at boosting investments as
well as tourism trade.

The Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, who was present at the
media conference, said he would be leading an investment mission to
the Middle East next month. He is expected to meet up with potential
investors in the financial sector, in particular those in the banking
and insurance sub-sectors.
