National Instruments, a global leader in test, control and embedded
design hardware and software for engineers and scientists announced
its first investment in Malaysia to establish an integrated
manufacturing, R&D and operations facility, which will include a
supply chain management hub, IT development and financial services
center in Malaysia. The company will be investing about RM280 million
in the first and second phases to manufacture and service test,
measurement and automation hardware and software products. This major
announcement was made at a press conference which was held at the
Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA).
"We are happy to welcome National Instruments to Malaysia and pleased
that the company has chosen to invest in our country. Malaysia offers
a resource-rich, competitive environment that is ideal for higher
value-add companies, and we look forward to a successful
collaboration with National Instruments," said Tan Sri Dato'
Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin, Minister of International Trade and Industry.
The Minister added, "It is also heartening to note that American
companies not only continue to invest in Malaysia, but more
importantly, invest in quality investments, incorporating the latest
technology and in high value added projectsWe see the strong and
sustained inflows of American investments into Malaysia as a
reflection of the country's continued competitiveness for
manufacturing and services-related operations. The very fact that
American companies continue to invest substantially in Malaysia, even
during such challenging times to the global economy, is indeed even
more noteworthy."
During the period January to August 2008, the US was the second
largest foreign investor in Malaysia's manufacturing sector, with
investments totaling RM6.28 billion. Investments from the US for the
first eight months of the year also surpassed the amount approved for
the whole of 2007, which totaled RM3 billion per NST.
"Engineers and scientists around the world have adopted National
Instruments software and hardware for their applications, and our new
facility in Malaysia will help us support the strong, long-term
growth that has resulted," said Dr. James Truchard, President, CEO
and Cofounder of National Instruments. "The cost-competitive business
environment and skilled workforce makes Malaysia ideal for our new
facility. We want to thank Malaysian officials, in particular the
Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), for their support

The setting-up of National Instruments integrated operations will
contribute towards Malaysia moving up the value chain in the
manufacturing sector and will lead to technology transfer and the
acquisition of skills among Malaysians.The presence of the National
Instruments supply chain management hub in Malaysia will also serve
to further enhance the development of the services sector in the
country.
