Switzerland-based Gutor, a member of Schneider Group and a world
leader in power protection and uninterrupted power supply solutions,
has opened a RM30 million Asia-Pacific Headquarters and manufacturing
plant in Malaysia. The facility also serves as its global engineering
and service hub for Gutor LLC.

The 45,000-sq-ft facility in Shah Alam, Selangor, offers a
comprehensive value chain of activities, including training, research
and development (R&D) design, testing and manufacturing solutions
with two assembly lines, Gutor Chief Executive Officer, G. Imboden
said, at a media conference after the official opening of the
facility by the Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tan Sri
Muhyiddin Yassin per Bdernama.

The Malaysian facility which offers power protection solutions to the
oil and gas and power generation industries, will export about 80 %
of its products, of which 60 % will be for the Asia Pacific region
while the balance will cater to the markets in the Middle East and
other regions. The plant is expected to operate at maximum capacity
by 2010.

Meanwhile, the Minister said for the first eight months of the year,
some RM837.6 million of Swiss investments in six projects were
approved; of which two were new investments while the other four were
reinvestments for expansion and diversification. These investments
were mainly concentrated in the electrical and electronics (E&E)
sector.

The electronics sector is one of the 12 priority sectors identified
for accelerated integration in Asean, which will translate to a more
cost-effective production and trade in E&E equipment and at the same
time adhering to quality and safety requirements.

Malaysia, the Minister said is also looking at a framework for
cooperation in trade and investment with the European Free Trade
Area, of which Switzerland is a member.
