thx for the improvements involving interquote. Some indicators that still
are not working as they had been in the past is Williams AD,
Accum/Distribrib., Arms Ease of Movement, and UDVR as an indicators for
$COMPX. Williams AD does display for $SPX, while UDVR, Arms and Accum.
Distrib. does not. The accum/distrib. line and arms ease of movement do not
display for $COMPX there are no volume bars displayed for $COMPX. The newest
of the price bars for $COMPX are displayed as dashes, not bars.
ANSWER:
InterQuote does not (nor does any other data vendor) provide volume for
$COMPX. Indicators whose calculations depend on volume will not compute if
volume is not present in the historical data.
As for $COMPX showing up as dashes, if you look at the tick data for $COMPX,
if only one tick comes in during a one minute period then the open will be
the same price as the close, high, and low, by definition in a one minute
chart. It does appear that InterQuote is sending $COMPX updates only once
per minute. I occassionally see two ticks in a minute interval and the bar
(or candle) has some body to it in those cases.
The creator of the Datekexpress interface has been updated to
accomodate the server changes (Yes!), and here's the link:
http://stockclub.com/super_express/
(The stockclub website, where its hosted, seems to be somewhat like a
ghosttown now, so this modification is a surprise, but I'm guessing
its been modified so that they can still take advantage of the ad
banners they run on it...Works for me!)

I'm running the b2 version. I don't use the InterQuote data feed, so I don't feel an urgency to upgrade once again. What are these 'several additional enhancements that may be of interest' in the b4 version? Can you give us a hint what these might be so we can motivate ourselves to upgrade (or not)?
Here's the list:
24. New styles for main toolbar, contextual menu added. 25. RTL Language: DV token enhanced. 26. RTL Language: BARS token enhanced. 27. Investor/RT now includes a full featured IRC Chat facility. We are releasing Investor/RT 4.6 b4 today in order to provide updated data feed software for InterQuote users. Recent unexpected changes in the format of the InterQuote data feed transmission has necessitated revisions to Investor/RT. For example, InterQuote recently began transmitting futures contract settlement prices continuously during trading hours and I/RT was programmed to expect this information only after the close. Thus the transmitted settlement price (for the previous day) was incorrectly applied to the "Last" price for certain futures contracts. This results in "flat line" charts at the transmitted settlement price. In addition, a change in transmission format for selected stocks and indices has resulted in periodic misquotes thus adversely affecting I/RT charts. The problems have been corrected in 4.6 b4. While this is still considered a beta release, this update is the only solution for InterQuote users who have been experiencing the problems described above.
All beta 4.6 users are also encouraged to update. The new release contains several additional enhancements that may be of interest.
Those of you who use Datek regurlary know that the express webpage
layout is no longer available. On top of that, those of you who were
using the Super-Express third party interface (that's similar to
PowerEtrade interface, except that this Datek page was the original
idea!) no longer works as well.
As a work-around, which I'm finding (with a macro program to assign
convenient keystoke commands) almost as convenient, is here:
http://home.pacbell.net/tai_jin/datek/express.htm
The macro program that I use, and would recommend (albeit it costs
about $59) is Automate (pc platform) from www.unisYn.com. The is an
extensive macro program though and am sure that there are some others
that can do mouse movement and keystroke commands for much cheaper
(if not free).
A good site for tracking Datek interfaces (and other trading related
resources) is www.daytradingstocks.com, under the "trading software"
link.

I subscribe to the CBOE daily update, which includes the put/call ratio for
the current day (which one of you had refered me to -thanks!), and for the
first time since I've been checking it daily, its been like .39-.42 a few
days in a row, extremely low and down from the higher 40's to low 50's in
mild conditions. For all you who try to guage the major indeces, isn't this
number a very bearish indication? I really can't say that I focus much on
the index levels and any immediate implications of this number while trading
(if there are any...), but it makes me wonder if you guys are seeing
something in your analysis that is more conspicuous than normal, bearish or
bullish.
I remember looking at these numbers a few years ago on a chart and it took
about a month before things turned downward. I think that was a week or so
in 7/98 or 8/98 when p/c ratios got very low, and things went sour in 9/98
(if I have the right year!). I haven't been studying p/c ratios, but its
curious numbers like this that is the reason why I take a quick glance at
the number each day.
John
****************************************************************
High John,
I trade the indeces, thanks for your observation. I day trade the S&P Emini
(2 to 30 minutes per round turn), but I have come up with my own Daily,
"Crash Indicator", which has caught every decline in the S&P of 9% or more
since 1980. I trade OEX options to try and catch these.
What I look at has nothing to do with put call ratios (although this weekend
my wife will be cursing you for giving me another subject to research), but
what I've come up with gives me a 1 to 1.5 month lead time before the
correction, but I need to see confirmation from a second indicator I look
at.
I've gotten the first part as of a week ago, and I'm waiting for the
confirmation part, which seems to be setting up perfectly for about a month
from now. I also have a secondary indicator which can negate all of this.
It is also seetting up to negate this potential decline.
Have to watch this day by day to see the likely scenario. But it looks to
me
like we are at least a month away from a major decline (9% or greater). But
never underestimate the power of the FED.
I'll try and update the sparklist with my forecast, but I've got a very sick
wife (of course I have no health insurance) and 5 kids who like to sit with
me during the and watch me play the GAME.
Again thanks for the observation, I'll try and research this weekend and
keep
you up to breast on my foorecast.

A daytraders rule of thumb...Never take for granted the patience of a wife
of a daytrader.! (It sure can be hard to get off the computer, can't it.)

Well, knowing that you've got some indicators that might be kicking in, I'll
be curious to see what happens. Bring it on! (off course...in a way that all
of us traders can profit from.) I wouldn't mind seeing a big move because of
the added volume and volatility, which for the most part, has left a lot to
be desired for me since April.

I must say Jeffrey regarding insurance, since mine finally just became
effective on Saturday, it was one of the biggest hassles I ever went through
trying to obtain (and that's without kids). That's very cute that they like
to hang with you during the day. Kids always love checking out what daddy's
working on. I've thought of that myself, and look forward to it (if I'm
still trading then...)

Investor/RT from the beginning has had the capability to display prices in
various fractional formats or in decimals according to user preference. Each
instrument has it's own display format which may be adjusted in Setup:
Instruments.
To assign two decimal format to every stock issue, open the ".Stocks" quote
page and click the "Number Format" button with no particular row selected.
Then pick 99.99 format from the displayed list and all instruments will be
udpated.
Hi Paul and all:
I belive Investor/RT had handeled decmils from beginning. Under the
SETUP menu, SETUP INSTRUMENTS, there is a Display Format popup list.
it contains decmil settings like, 99.9, 99.99, 99.999, etc... so you
can change any instrument. Not sure if there is a method to change
all instruments in database though, I looked a bit and I looked at
scan tokens but could not see method to change all in database, but
there might be a way, that Dr. Linn could advise us on.

A new Investor/RT beta version 4.6 b3 is now available for downloading. All users who are running 4.6 b2 (or b1) please update to this version. All users beta testing with Quote.com QFeed should update to 4.6 b3. The release fixes an intra-day data downloading bug affecting QFeed users outside the Eastern US timezone.
This release contains further refinement to the new IRC Chat facility in Investor/RT. There are also some enhancements in the backtesting area including a new feature for viewing the performance of a trading system graphically in a chart. See the What's New item in the Help Menu for additional details.

I agree with the previous comments wholeheartedly. I am also having a
great experience with the upgrade to W2k. There is really no
comparison between w2k and win98. Memory management, stability,
multitasking and speed improvements are significant over w98. I've
never used NT, so I can't comment about it.
There are some issues as vendors adjust to the changes in the OS, but
for trading workstations,
the benefits far outweigh any temporary incompatibilities.
A suggestion for those who wish to take it slow. Win2k supports
dual booting, but you need
to have a 2nd primary partition. FDISK won't do this, but a product
called Partition Magic five can. By purchasing and installing a new
drive, you can have an independent, isolated installation of Win2k
and still leave your Win98 install completely intact. This allows
selection of either platform at startup.
For complete details see:

(Copied from Sparklist)
I second that, and have been using it for about 2-3 months with IRT. I would
encourage people who consider going to 2k to not plan to do it overnight, in
case there are any upgrade/support issues with their hardware/software
configurations. I installed it on a new system from head to tow and only
installed things that I knew had 2k support/drivers, and since I did my
research (checked all manufacturer's/developers websites and downloaded 2k
drivers and soft. versions) for everything that I wanted install, I had NO
problems. But, although most people have had a pretty high degree of
success, and are very satisfied once everything's identified what is
supported and what isn't, there are some wierd issues out there that have
come up. I.E. bioses need upgrading, IDE or ATAPI hardware won't configure
properly, or software won't work, because its not compatible or supported
yet.
Many people have chosen to wait because of this, but for me, maximizing the
trading workstation is the highest priority, so I went for it and am very
glad I did.
John
I find Win2000 incredibly stable and fast. I could only get perhaps 80/100 myTrack Requests Active with Win98 with 56K modem link and even then the feed would drop out very often.(10+ times per day if not more on a bad day). Now with 2000 I can get well over 200 active requests with effectivly zero feed drop during the entire trading day. It really is a new experience in reliabilty. Hope this feed back is of some use. I would certainly encourage all I/RT Win98 users to upgrade to Win2000.

I see Bill posted to this list so I will also, as only the 4 of us
are subscribed to it. For 1, maybe chad can post this info regarding
holidays on web site for future reference. One nice thing about
egourps maillist over current besides cost is users can search on all
past emails, and sort etc... Chad maybe we can import all emails from
other list as we had many on feeds etc... I had all old emails but
lost them in a harddisk erase by me. maybe I can find them though.
also please note team that I have created 3 tables so far under
database to help Bill track polishes, and enhancements requests. was
easy to create and easy to change fields, sort, search, delete etc...
what you all think of them?
well more later... all looks great and egroups is excellent I feel also.

ps: keep the mast pointed up! good holiday team :)
pss: also there might be a great opportunity with othernet owner,

Opus should talk or meet. He lives in Missouri

July 4 is recognized as a trading holiday by I/RT and no posting of
historical data will occur. A message informing you that it's a holiday
should appear. I/RT uses a file named "holidays" located in the admin
folder/directory to determine the dates and names of upcoming holidays as
well as the dates of abbreviated trading sessions. You can inspect this file
using File: Open: File. We update the file periodically in our update
releases. It contains lines of text like this:
991231,A,New Year's Eve
000117,H,Martin Luther King Day
000221,H,President's Day
000421,H,Good Friday
000529,H,Memorial Day
000704,Independence Day
000904,H,Labor Day
001123,H,Thanksgiving Day
001225,H,Christmas Day
010101,H,New Year's Day
The "H" means Holiday, the "A" means Abbreviated Trading Hours.
Interestingly, I just noticed that the Holidays file I have on my machine
(which may be out-of-date) does not have the "H" following the date for
000704. This means that the message mentioned above will not appear. You can
correct the file if needed so the line reads: 000704,H,Independence Day.
Even with this mistake, however, I/RT internally recognizes that July 4th
(when it occurs on a week-day) is a trading holiday and it will not record
historical data today.
Linn Software is pleased to announce the first public beta test release of version 4.6 of Investor/RT. The 4.6 beta test version is available for downloading at www.linnsoft.com/dl. We expect several weeks of beta testing before releasing 4.6 as a final release.
The new version supports the QFeed data service from Quote.com, Inc. (www.quote.com). Investor/RT 4.6 now features built-in access to Internet chat rooms, including the Investor/RT (#linnsoft) chat room, directly within the program. For an overview of the new features in version 4.6, go to www.linnsoft.com/new.
It can all be done via email, I think. I believe you can subscribe and
unsubscribe via email. I'll check into that.
