For those who are not aware of it, the Phenology Network, sponsored
by the Woodland Trust, has a very interesting and information-packed
web-site (www.phenology.org.uk/ ). Many of you are probably already
contributors to phenological recording but, if not, this is a good
time to start. It simply involves recording the first signs of
natural life (e.g. budburst of several trees, flowering, activity of
birds and several insects). Not onerous and producing very
interesting data.
On the other hand, you may have missed some of the "firsts". Pine
ladybirds were observed mating in Alexandra Park on 4th February, two
weeks earlier than the previous record. Undoubtedly many other
insects are already out and about.
Have you seen anything of note?
