Thank you for that good note Richard Evans. But I must take issue with
the idea of "requirement", even in cases as well intentioned and benign
as this. To me it suggests a very definite provincial small-mindedness,
the world of the rigid bureaucrat and not that of the leader or
activist.
Car/Free Days need to be marked by enormous variety. Every city is sui
generis. People are smart. Instead of telling them what to do and when, it is
our view here at WCFDs to do what we can to give them good examples, keep the
information on what they are dong (and not doing) spinning around for
all to see, help them where we can, and let's see what they will do once
they have really set their mind to it. Then once we have enough
really good variants out there for all to see and ponder, the powerful motor of
emulation will take over and the rest will solve itself (and then we can go
fishing).
