Hi Hal,
Yes, it is possible - although you will need to run windows with
bootcamp or parralels/Vmware fusion on your mac.
I am using Okino's Polytrans to convert CAD models to the .obj
format and load them into modo. Polytrans delivers great results
but needs windows to run.
here is a link to okinos website:
http://www.okino.com
Another solution maybe is right hemispheres Deep Exploration.
Needs windows to run too. But I can't comment on the quality
their converter delivers.
link:
http://www.righthemisphere.com
Hope that helps, though it's not a solution that runs on mac OS X.

You are so correct. One little extra bit of info is to make sure to
turn OFF Clamp Colors on the Final Color Output item in the Shader
tree. This way you get the full linear floating point data.

these formats provide is very nice as there's so much control in post
for adjustments that are not possible with 24 or 32 bit images.

This is a good idea, it would be useful to also tag pixels in the
actual render view with colors if they exceed maximum values.

Hello!
I am very new to modo. Does anything exist, in the any of any
windows, showing a histogram or any other information regarding tonal
information at render time?
I am running into some clipping issues with my renders. How do you
check highlight and shadow values?

Thank you all for such quick responses. It seems that raising the
irradiance rate from 2.5 to 10 really helped. Although there may be
some loss of detail, most of the detail I have in this shot comes from
the image projections on the piece, which were not really sacrificed,
so there is still plenty of detail left for my purposes. my render
time is now just over 6 minutes! Thanks again!

Hi Greg,
you can try increasing the irradiance rate to a value about 5 to 10.
This could speed things up, but at the expense of loosing detail.
The irradiance rate is a pixel based value, so increasing the value
results in faster render times. The default is 2.5 for an image of 640
by 480
pixels.
hope that helps.

Hello all,
Hoping someone out there could help me out with this issue. I
have a product shot I'm rendering out (running Modo 302 on a 2 GHZ
Core 2 Duo Mac Mini with 2 Gigs of ram). I have Global Illumination
and Radiance Caching turned on (256 Irradiance Rays). I also have one
directional light with a 3º spread angle. The floor plane has 20%
reflectivity with Blurry Reflections turned on and 64 Reflection Rays.
This is a 2200x1700 pixel image (8.5" x 11" @ 200 DPI). The picture
looks like a photograph.
MY PROBLEM (finally)
This image is taking about 15 minutes to render and I know Modo 302 is
capable of a faster render time. I just don't know what settings I can
adjust without losing quality. Any help? Thanks in advance!

Depending on your needs, using the Solid Sketch tool or even the Tube
tool with a material that has some transparency might be a good starting
point.

Hello!
I am new to modo, and have hit a bit of a stumbling block.
I am attempting to create some text with a toothpaste gel
(green/cyan translucent) look. As if some spelled out a word while
squeezing the tube.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you've un-installed any other display driver? I've had issues with
a new card when I've not un-installed the display that came installed on my
motherboard.
You could also try non-standard Nvidia drivers, at your own risk-
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ I've used one from here with success, but for
unrelated purposes. [back up your original!]
Also, try disabling hardware acceleration in dxdiag (start/run/dxdiag) - that
might buy you time to get to VBO Mode settings, then turn it back on-- (total
guesswork here)
It's been some time since you've been running- I wish you luck!

How much RAM is installed on your system, and is Windows completely up
to date (as far as patches and such)?

I have not heard of this before.
I assume you have re-booted to clear out any gremlins.
Deleting the modo301.cfg file may help.
I wonder cOuld this be an out of memory condition on your system.

I work for Luxology and can speak for Brad on this one. We are doing
everything we can to ship before the end of this month, March. It is a
free update for all modo 301 users. There is some information on
upcoming features at luxology.tv now. modo 302 is a very nice
improvement to modo and we are anxious to get it out to the community.

Hi,
I have installed modo 301, but every time, 3~4 seconds after starting
the application, it froze.
I have installed the latest nVidia drivers for my GeForce 8600 GT,
256MB. Windows XP SP2.
any Idea how to fix this?
Thanks,
Hadi
Hello all,
I apologize to Mr. Peebler in advance if he's been bombarded
with this question, but is there any more information about a specific
release date for Modo 302? I know the projected timeframe was by the
end of the first quarter of '08, I would just like to know if there
was anything more specific. I'm very eagerly awaiting it's arrival.
Thanks.
-Greg
And you are correct, Sir. ;)

Thanks Brad,
I really appreciate it. I've been telling everyone
that one of the biggest differences between MODO and
Maya is the community that surrounds it and the close
loop connecting users to developers.
Best wishes,
Alexander
