Hi, for me this is totally the 3d software to learn for many reason. First of
all the growing comunity and because the learning curve. So if you want to get
onto 3d I strongly recomend modo.
I am getting back into 3d and would like to hear if this is "the" 3D program to
learn (read: to make money). My past experience was with ALIAS / wavefront. I am
currently a photoshop retoucher of 15 years and would like to broaden my scope.
thanks for any positive feedback.

It was free with version 301 orso .. but its not free anymore..
So no need to search anymore.. you can email them at the Modo site...
And maybe you can get a discount on the IS2 ..
And i do think you mean imagesynth.

Hi Kristin
I've had *some* success. You have to jump through a few hoops to do it
but you can get an end result.
You will need this Collada Plugin for Modo:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/colladamodo
It's quite buggy though and on one of my machines it crashes Modo on
exporting the Collada.
After that you will need Blender. Import the Modo Collada and follow
these instructions:
http://www.gotoandlearnforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=13354#p74264
If you have baked a texture as a UV mapped image in Modo it will
follow it through all the way, but you will need to connect it in
appropriately in the Actionscript via BitmapFileMaterial.
An example result on my home page using a variation of Mr Doob's
Nurnie Ball: http://www.deology.com
A more predictable and less buggy way is to model in Modo, send to
Lightwave, export to 3DS, import to Swift3D and export to
Papervision3D - still a few hoops to jump through though.
Good luck

HI Peter,
I got the answer from the forum. I accidentally duplicated the same object on
top of it. I did the vertes merge. Problem solved.
Thanks again and Happy holiday.

Hi, first thing I would do is copy that layer and paste it in the same
layer as all the others. Then I would check the smoothing angle in the
material settings. I don't know why it would not subdivide at all
actually. That's never happened to me. [:-?]

Hi,
First of all, I'm new to Modo.
A month ago, I downloaded the Modo demo and started to learn Modo. I purchased 3
tutorials and started modeling. Everything was look fine before. But I got a
problem for
subdivision. I was building a car in Modo. And separated each parts in different
layers. On
of the object suddenly couldn't made subdvision on it. Technical speaking, the
object was
subdivision by checking the GL. But the object just didn't show correctly. It
looked the
same with polygon mode and subdivision mode.
I checked the properties, and compared with other objects, everything looked the
same.
it's never happened before.
Do have have any idea what's happened? Or and solution?
When you have a chance, please give me suggestion. Thanks in advance and I'm
very
appreciated.

You're going to want to open the Graph Editor with the camera selected in item
mode. You
will see influence handles on each point in the curve for each individual motion
channel.
Tweaking those handles (or right clicking on the control points and changing the
curve
interpolation mode to eg. flat) will control the automatically generated
transition
animations.
If that doesn't work for you just set your default curvature to flat and animate
each frame
individually. (Bad idea.)
The defaults are set up to give you smooth animation with fewer control points;
so it's
likely that if you're having issues with placement and rotation; you're just
using too many
control points in your animation.
Also bear in mind that you might only be animating the motion channels (x,y,z)
etc. I
highly suggest grabbing Andy's modo in focus that includes the animation stuff
and
watching it.
Best,
Thomas

What property are you driving with your gradient?
What is your input channel?

Hello, I am looking for folks in or around Chicago who are capable Modo artists.
Our studio is
looking for people to come in on a freelance or trial basis to help out with our
current 3D
projects. This opportunity will potentially lead to a permanent position if we
find someone
who fits in well with our talented crew. Our studio is located in downtown
Chicago, in the
West Loop area, and we are currently looking to build our 3D department. We have
many
projects currently as well as on the horizon that will require 3D skills in
Modo. If you have
experience in Modo as well as applicable skills in other platforms such as
Photoshop or
Adobe CS, please feel free to contact me to learn more about the positions.
Thanks

Hello all,
I'm new to Modo and basically love the program, but I have to say the
documentation blows.
I'm trying to use the Curve Slice tool in Modo 302 (Mac OS X.5.4) but all I can
find is one little
cryptic html page about it.
I've made a curve I want to use by importing an Illustrator eps file. The doc
says I can use an
existing curve, but I have no clue about how. I have the curve as a separate
item and lined up
with the mesh I want to slice. But I don't know what to do next.
Any help?
I'm running Modo 302 (current build). Every time I import a Lightwave
or OBJ object into a Modo scene, Modo always imports them as a group
folder with a child item. The group folder is named the same name as
the imported object, but the child item is always named "default," so
I'm always unparenting the child item from the folder, renaming the
child item to whatever the part is called, and deleting the folder. Is
there any way (a preference or something) to import these files and
just have them come in as unparented mesh items? Any help is greatly
appreciated.
Sincerely,
Greg Annicchiarico

Hal,
Not sure if this helps, but you might want to try merging all the
vertices on the object after you've imported it to Modo. Also, try
and triangulate the object as well to eliminate non-planar polys.

Mark

You were probably seeing that "ability to rotate nodes" behavior when
the SolidSketch tool was still active. Once you drop the SolidSketch
tool the nodes can ne re-activated it you select the Solidsketch
object in "Item" mode and respond "yes" to modo's query that is
something like "SolidSketch gemoetry detected in scene, re-activate
it?".
Hello,
I am new to 3D modeling and modo, and have run into the following
problem.
A client has sent me an .obj file. It imported quickly into modo, but
on the render there are glitches in the surface of the product. I
have a jpg I could pass along.
The original file is a .stl from SolidWorks, then converted to
an .obj in AccuTrans. I did not do the conversion, but was wondering
if there are settings anyone could pass along for proper output.
Thank you,
Hal

In the tutorial you can rotate nodes by roll over and it will highlight to

Its not doing it on my mac. Can any one help?

It was permission issue.

Is there possibly a conflict with your video card? What kind of Mac
are you working on (laptop/desktop/iMac)?

What sort of graphics card do you have in there?
You should take the crash report and copy/paste the data into a bug
report filed direct at Luxology.com via your account page so we can
see the crash log.

I thought would be more than enough to run modo smoothly but it shuts down about

Hi Hal,
Yes, it is possible - although you will need to run windows with
bootcamp or parralels/Vmware fusion on your mac.
I am using Okino's Polytrans to convert CAD models to the .obj
format and load them into modo. Polytrans delivers great results
but needs windows to run.
here is a link to okinos website:
http://www.okino.com
Another solution maybe is right hemispheres Deep Exploration.
Needs windows to run too. But I can't comment on the quality
their converter delivers.
link:
http://www.righthemisphere.com
Hope that helps, though it's not a solution that runs on mac OS X.
