Have you tried to visit Cahokia Mounds Interpretive Center on a Monday or
Tuesday and found it closed?
Have you attempted to book a group tour for a Monday or Tuesday and found the
Center is closed those two days?
Do you know that Cahokia Mounds is not only a State Historic Site, but is also a
U.S. National Historic Landmark and a United Nations-designated World Heritage
Site? Do you know that this internationally recognized archaeological treasure
has been closed to the public two days a week for over two years as a result of
an Illinois governmental decision?
Do you know that the Museum Shop (operated by the Museum Society) has been
reduced to a 5-day-a-week operation, thereby reducing the financial support the
Museum Society is able to give to the site for public programming and events?
Please do your part! It is vitally important that you write a handwritten note
to the Governor of Illinois, stating a couple reasons why you think it is
important for Cahokia Mounds to be open again 7 days per week!
Write your note today (it does not have to be long, just a paragraph) and mail
it to:
Gov. Rod Blagojevich
207 State House
Springfield, IL 62706
