Over the last three years, faculty, students and staff at the University of
Missouri–St. Louis have collaborated with residents of Old North St. Louis to
cultivate a sense of place and spur neighborhood revitalization through
historical research. The results of this partnership include the video
documentary North Side Story and a free booklet published by MHS Press, From
Village to Neighborhood: A History of Old North St. Louis. At this presentation,
the video (30 minutes) will be shown in its entirety and the booklet will be
available. Andrew Hurley, Professor of History at the University of Missouri–St.
Louis, will discuss the collaborative process that led to this program.
You may recall UMSL Assistant Professor of Anthropology Tim Baumann's recent
archaeological work in connection with this project. For an overview of those
efforts, visit
