As President of the Mound City Archaeological Society, the St. Louis Chapter of
the Missouri Archaeological Society, I'm pleased to invite you to attend our
next monthly lecture on Tuesday, June 7, at 7pm at the Missouri History Museum
in Forest Park.
The title of our next lecture is "INTO THE DARK ZONE: Prehistoric Mining on the
Cumberland Plateau". Valerie Altizer, from the University of Tennessee and the
Archaeological Research Center of St. Louis, will delve into the archaeological
evidence found in Tennessee cave sites. She will shed light on how prehistoric
people explored and used the caverns, as well as the resources and artifacts
found deep within hidden areas of the caves and some of the steps taken to
preserve and study these rare and fragile items.
This event is co-sponsored by the Missouri Historical Society and is free and
open to the public; everyone is welcome.
A regular business meeting of the Mound City Archaeological Society will precede
the lecture at 6:30pm. This is also free and open to the public; you do not need
to be a member of the Society to attend.
