Hello, everyone.
As you're probably already aware, this Saturday is Archaeology Day at Cahokia
(see Bill's e-mail below). If the weather cooperates (and it's starting to look
like it will), we could see a very healthy turnout for this annual event.
Obviously, we don't have much control over the weather, but there are other
things we can do that will help ensure a successful event.
Specifically, I'm referring to volunteering. Our friends over at Cahokia are
already doing a heckuva job to prepare for this but, in the
many-hands-make-light-work department, they could definitely use a few more
people.
I realize that many of us in the Mound City Archaeological Society are also
members of the Cahokia Archaeological Society (a condition I like to refer to as
"dual citizenship"), but whether you're a member or not, here's a chance for us
over here in Missouri to be good neighbors and help out our friends on the other
side of the Big Muddy (and, maybe, even have a little fun at the same time).
Lord knows that the CAS folks have certainly been there for Mound City more than
a few times in the past.
That's why I'm asking all Mound Citizens to consider spending a few hours this
Saturday celebrating our region's past and helping others discover ancient
America. You don't need to be an "expert" in any particular event; a simple
enthusiasm for archaeology will do just fine. If you're interested, please
contact me as soon as possible by either calling me at (314) 704-3507 or
e-mailing me at bgpaulus@... .
If you've already volunteered, please accept my sincere thanks. I know how busy
our weekends can get, so don't worry if you're schedule won't allow you to come
out this Saturday; I promise that there'll be plenty of other opportunities for
you to get involved in the local archaeology scene in the weeks and months ahead
(Sutter-Meyer, St. Ferdinand, Arrow Rock, and Maddin Creek, just to name a few).
Thanks again for your time and I hope to see you Saturday,
Greg
