Fwd: Cahokia Mounds Trivia Night & Silent Auction, June 10   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #163 of 223 |
I know it's only Monday, folks, but I imagine we all could use a reason to help
us through the week -- say, something to look forward to this weekend, perhaps?

Now, I'll admit that it's hard for me to be objective about this, but I have to
say in all honesty that this Saturday's Cahokia Mounds Trivia Night & Silent
Auction fundraiser is really shaping up to be quite an event.

The first, second and third place tables will win $120, $100 and $80,
respectively, but there'll also be drawings for lots of neat attendance prizes,
plus a wide range of cool items to bid on during the auction. The may also be
other contests and raffles; I guess, we'll just have to wait and see what extra
surprises the Cahokia folks have planned for us.

And all of this is for the benefit of preserving and protecting our area's rich
cultural heritage so, in addition to having a good time, you'll also be helping
a worthy cause.

More information from Leah and Bill is attached below my signature, so be sure
to keep scrolling down after you've read my stuff. Also, just a reminder that
soft drinks will be available for purchase at the Museum or, if you prefer, you
can bring your own beer or wine, as well as other beverages and snacks.

By the way, did I mention the friendly challenge between the Cahokia
Archaeological Society, the Mound City Archaeological Society, and the Three
Rivers Chapter of the Missouri Archaeological Society? It's mainly for "braggin'
rights", but each organization is sponsoring a table and the two tables that
come in second and third will each donate $25 to the fundraiser.

Who knows? With luck, maybe this will be the beginning of an ongoing
series of inter-organizational challenges. If so, then we should probably give
it a name. I was thinking that perhaps we could call it ...

... wait for it ...

... you better sit down for this one ...

... get ready ...

... an "ARCH-AEO-RIVALRY".

<insert rimshot here: ba-dum-bum>

Anyway, we still have just a couple of empty seats left at the Mound City
Archaeological Society's table that we'd very much like to fill (I mean, how
embarrassing would it be if we beat the MAS-TRC and CAS tables while we're
SHORTHANDED? -- We can't have that, now, can we? Of course, not), so if you're
at all interested in joining us for an evening of fun and excitement, or if you
can think of anyone who might be interested, please let me know right away. You
can call or e-mail me, whichever's easier for you.

Please note that carpooling IS an option, by the way; if you want to go, I'm
sure we can find a way to get you there without a lot of hassle.

I hope to hear from you soon. I also hope to see you all at tomorrow night's
lecture at the Missouri History Museum, featuring Floyd Mansberger, director of
Fever River Research, sharing his experiences with archaeological testing and
mitigation of a three-block area designated for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Library and Museum complex in Springfield, Illinois.
