The MCAS continues it's Fall 2001 lecture series on Tuesday,
November 6th, by featuring Joe Harl, Director of the
Archaeological Research Center of St. Louis, Inc., who will
discuss the "Archaeological Investigations at the MSD Site in
South St. Louis County".
"Archaeological Investigations at the MSD Site in South St.
Louis County"
The MSD Site is located near the mouth of the Meramec River in
southern St. Louis County. Data recovery investigations
performed in the summer of 2001 uncovered the remains of a
dispersed early Late Woodland community (ca. A.D. 300-450). The
site also contained a burned Mississippian (ca. A.D. 1000-1300)
residence.
This is one of the first times a community dating to this time
has been excavated in this portion of Missouri, so the analysis
of this site should provide valuable new information.
