Mound City Lecture: Dr. W. Raymond Wood
Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2004
Time: 7:00PM - 8:30PM CST (GMT-06:00)
The Mound City Chapter of the Missouri Archaeological Society,
the Missouri Historical Society, and the Department of
Anthropology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis would like
to announce a new archaeology lecture series on the first
Tuesday of every month beginning January 6, 2004 at the Missouri
History Museum at Forest Park in St. Louis. These lectures will
start at 7 p.m. and will be preceded by a business meeting of
the Mound City Chapter at 6:30 p.m. All lectures are free and
open to the public.
The inaugural lecture on January 6th will be by Dr. W. Raymond
Wood, professor emeritus of the University of Missouri-Columbia,
who will discuss his most recent publication Prologue to Lewis &
Clark: The Mackay and Evans Expedition. In 1795, under the
direction of the Spanish government, James Mackay and John Evans
left St. Louis for what was expected to be a six-year expedition
westward. They traveled 700 miles up the Missouri and made the
maps that would later lead Lewis and Clark as far as the Mandan
Village.
We are currently seeking additional speakers for this lectures
series. If you are interested, then please send a title,
abstract, and month(s) available to Ettus Hiatt at
emhiatt@... and to Tim Baumann at
