St. Ferdinand Excavation Opening Ceremonies
Date: Wednesday, May 26, 2004
Time: 9:00AM - 6:00PM CDT (GMT-05:00)
The two-week excavation of the original St. Ferdinand church in
Florissant's Spanish Land Grant Park will kick off with an
opening ceremony at 9:00am on Wednesday, May 26.
The ceremony will be held in the little pavillion at the low end
of the park. You will be able to park in the small parking lot
or along St. Charles Street. Florissant Mayor Robert Lowery, Joe
Harl fo the Archaeological Research Center, and priests from St.
Ferdinand and Sacred Heart will each speak briefly, then we're
off to do what we've waited so long to do. I know a lot of you
will have a regular work day that day, but I hope you can be on
hand for the ceremony and the first few shovels of dirt.
Photos of the site and the excavation, as well as occasional
updates from the excavators will be available on-line within the
next few days.
We still need volunteers to help man the information booth and
talk to visitors about the excavation, as well as the MCAS and
MAS organizations.
