I am using the DVB World box and software under Windows 7 and it works just
as well as it did under Vista.
The same issues apply in relation to Windows Media Player and the problems
of Power settings, the latter being a real pain.
Losses are minimal but I am only using one computer at the moment.

I do like Windows 7 but I seem to one of the few who liked Vista !

John, I am using a Dexatek USB Box on Windows 7 64 bit, but I am using
DVBWorld software dated July 2007 as my Dexatek software had no 64 bit
drivers.

I have UAC turned off so that I am able to use the C\ Program files tree and
that has benefits.  I have run under XP and Vista and Windows 7 32 bit, but
my present set-up is the most reliable I have seen.

I have been running Windows 7 64 bit for a month now and with the exception
of about a week when I was shutdown ( hospital and recovery ) I have not
lost a single segment / chunk on a 1 computer system that is used for all
other things as well.

Most helpful Douglas, and Ian.  BTW: this portable has UAC enabled.

I'm seeing no Windows Media Player issues at the moment, so perhaps you
could remind me how to trigger them?  I do have "Always show icons, never
thumbnails" enabled though.  I find the WMP very limited, though, and
currently have three other players installed, The KM Player, VLC Media
Player, and DivX.

The indicated power settings are retained over a reboot (on this portable,
dim display 3 minutes, turn-off display 5 minutes, put the computer to
sleep never).  Just waiting now to see whether the settings are honoured
(although without the DVB World software running).  Yes, the display did
shut down, although after perhaps 8 minutes (3 + 5?) rather than after the
5 minutes I had expected.  Now testing with the DVB World software active
and receiving data - it's OK, screen dimmed after 3 minutes and went black
after 5.

switch on the monitor.  I have also removed the offending file from the
DVBWorld software that causes the WMP issues ( M2AToM1A.ax ).

The easy way to check if you have WMP issues is to attempt to run your AVI
animations on WMP.  Without the above file removed my WMP would not run any
AVI's ( and a few others as well ).

Yes, Ian, it's the same version of M2AToM1A.ax with the most recent
version of the DVB World software.  A simple rename from:  M2AToM1A.ax  to
M2AToM1A.ax.old  cures the WMP issues.  I didn't have any Meteosat AVI
animations on that system but an odd selection of videos from the BBC
iPlayer (FLV format SD and half-HD), DTT via a Win-TV USB stick (.TS
format), and DVB satellite TV recorded via the DVB World box (probably
with Dexatek software) (.MPG format).  Of course all these formats are
probably just wrappers around streams encoded with various codecs ....

Windows 7.

Does the Tellique software work in W7 ?

There is a new version not requiring a ramdisk I believe ?

The EKU will need a W7 driver, I can't find one, any thoughts ?

Guy, Tellique works fine on Windows 7 32 and 64 bit.  The EKU software for
Vista, PKIClient 4.5,works perfectly as well ( there is a 32 and a 64 bit
version ).

A new version of Tellique not requiring a RAMdisk has been promised for a
long time but it is still unavailable.

Morning all,

I'm having a bit of a move around - computer wise - and was wondering if the
msg software form Eumetsat would run OK on a 64 bit linux system?  I presume
they only supply a 32 bit distribution?

I'm trying to reduce the number of machines dotted about the house ;-) so
thought a AMDx2 (x86_64) system might do duty as recieve and MSGDM under wine
at the same time?

Still it'll keep me out of mischief with the weather forecast this week-end.

Weekly Operations Report had advised it stopping with the 8.00 UTC data

Thanks for that, Ian, and for Douglas's reminder.  I expect the team at
EUMETSAT will forward any FY2C data which comes from China.

I know EUMETSAT are awaiting test data, and my MSG Data Manager already
has a beta update for the new file names, but we want to be sure that the
spatial and thermal calibration is correct, or at least known, before
releasing the new data to the user community.  I hope it won't be too
long, and that the quality of the images will surpass that we got from
FY2C.

Douglas,

Just to "add another point to the graph" - as it were - I have been
running an ISS stream from NASA all afternoon, as I have been enhancing
WXtrack to have more features of the Mission Control Center display.  I
noted that the Windows-7 system I was using didn't go into screen saver
mode while the .ASX stream was running.

However, once I closed the window which was displaying the stream, the PC
went into power-saver mode as normal.  So this makes me wonder whether, if
you do /not/ have the Testbild displayed, but just run the IP part of the
DVB World or Dexatek software, the hijack of the screen-saver doesn't
happen?

David I am just up and running this morning as I do not run overnight and to
my surprise I have some FY2E data coming in.

It would appear that the met. product data is being handled by Data Manager
( showing in the CMA folder ) but not the image data.

A surprise for me as well, Ian!  Thanks for the heads-up.  A beta update
of the MSG Data Manager handling the image data as well now available
here:

   http://www.satsignal.eu/software/beta.htm

Please note that the files currently retain the FY2C designation so that
my other software such as the MSG Animator and GeoSatSignal should
continue to work without change.

It may be marked as FY-2E but I have my doubts.   The high res 1km data
still has the line issue (FY-2C has detectors out).
If it is 2E then it is every bit as bad as 2C.   Perhaps it is the way the
Chinese compress and send it to Eumetsat.
Disappointing.

At the risk of going on about Windows 7 some more, wonder if anyone can
think of a reason for the following. All the software, Tellique,
DVBWorld and the EKU works., but Tellique wont connect to the DVBWorld
box EXCEPT When I do the following. Having read through Davids help
pages on this I added A persistant route "route -p -4 add etc"
restarting Tellique same result, no connection, yellow icon. If I then
DELETE "route delete" the permenent route and restart Tellique, hey
presto everything works, data flows. If I then reboot I am back to
square one.

As far as I can tell all the firewall, permission setting etc. are ok.
Network conections to other PC's work all the time, as does the internet
connection. After deleting the route, I was left with a persistant route
of "0.0.0.0  0.0.0.0  192.168.238.238"
Running the RC 7 64bit version of windows. Its on a seperate partion on
one of the drives, and as far as I can tell, everything else works as it
should do. Any thought, suggestions most welcome. My thought at the
moment is XP forever...!!

Yes and if you look at IR 4 it is covered in lines particularly at the north
and south.  I cannot believe for a minute that FY2E has the same problems as
FY2C, so it has to do with the image processing before it gets to Eumetsat.

Goeff, you may need to run the ROUTE ADD command as administrator.  The
other thing I've taken to doing recently is to remove the IPv6 protocol
from the DVB World box - to stop Windows taking an IPv6 route rather than
the IPv4 route the software expects.  Might be worth a try.  I think Ian
Deans is running with 64-bit Windows-7.

ROUTE PRINT should give a result similar to:

Persistent Routes:
   Network Address          Netmask  Gateway Address  Metric
           0.0.0.0          0.0.0.0     192.168.0.10  Default
         224.0.0.0        240.0.0.0  192.168.238.238       1
===========================================================

although your 192.168.0.10 address will be different (it's my router).
The IPv6 route table should have no persistent routes.

.....or perhaps FY2C being relayed through FY2E until its own calibration at
104° is complete.
My comments are more in hope than real belief as it is a bit naughty to have
FY2C data in FY2E file names.

Meteosat-8 Rapid Scanning Service will be interrupted for the annual one

My daughter is studying master in diet logy in the University of Glasgow
since September. I stayed there for 15 days.

On March or April I will be there again and I'd like to visit you,if you are
agreed.

What a good idea, Isidore!  Please contact me directly nearer the time.  I
live in Edinburgh, about 50km east of Glasgow, and there is a small group
of us who meet up from time-to-time for lunch.  Perhaps you would like to
